Yochlols are shapechanging demons created by Lolth, the Spider Queen.[2]

Appearance[]

In its true form, a yochlol appears as a pillar of yellow slime with one eye. They can polymorph into a form that resembles a giant spider or one that resembles a female drow and back again.[2]

Abilities[]

The following abilities are drawn from the Monster Manual, 5th Edition.[2]

  • Proficiencies
    • Saving throws: DEX, INT, WIS, CHA
    • Skills: Deception (with expertise), Insight
  • Damage resistances: Cold, fire, lightning, bludgeoning/piercing/slashing from nonmagical weapons
  • Damage immunities: Poison
  • Condition immunities: Poisoned
  • Magic Resistance: The yochlol has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
  • Shapechanger: As an action, can polymorph into a form resembling either a giant spider or a female drow or back into its true form, but any equipment it is carrying or wearing is not absorbed or borne by the new form. Its statistics remain the same in each form.
  • Spider Climb: The yochlol can climb difficult surfaces or even hang on ceilings without making an ability check.
  • Web Walker: The yochlol ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing.
  • Innate Spellcasting: The yochlol can cast Web and Detect Thoughts at will, and can cast Dominate Person once per day, using CHA as its spellcasting ability (save DC 14).
  • Actions
    • Slam: Reach 5 ft. (10 ft. in demon form), deals bludgeoning and heavy poison damage.
    • Bite (spider form only): Reach 5 ft., deals piercing and heavy poison damage
    • Multiattack: The yochlol can make two melee attacks.
    • Mist Form: The yochlol transforms into toxic mist or back to its true form, and any equipment it is carrying is also transformed. The toxic mist can fly with a 30 ft. movement speed and can pass through any space that isn't airtight, but is incapacitated and can't speak. In this form it has advantage on STR, DEX, and CON saving throws, and is immune to nonmagical damage. It can move into a creature's space and stop there, and if that creature starts its turn with the mist in its space, it must succeed at a CON saving throw or become poisoned until the start of its next turn, and is incapacitated while poisoned.

History[]

In the Age of Arcanum, incorporating the life force of a yochlol named Sinnafex, Lolth forged a sentient rapier from spider silk. This sword, called Silken Spite, is one of the Arms of the Betrayers, ranking among the lesser idols that would be lost in the Calamity and left behind in Exandria after the creation of the Divine Gate. It is unclear whether Silken Spite is among the Arms that have been recovered and drawn a following of mortal worshipers, but it would whisper to its wielder to trust no one. In addition to the usual languages a yochlol knows, Silken Spite can speak (telepathically to its wielder), read, and understand Common.[3]

As of about 836 PD, yochlols can be encountered within the Betrayers' Rise.[1]
