Yardel is a stonemasons' village north of Grimgolir in the Dwendalian Empire.[2]

Description[]

Yardel is nestled in the foothills of of the Dunrock Mountains, having high ground to check the only road running north-south along the outskirts. Otis Brunkel described it as "quaint". It was close enough to Grimgolir that people could travel to the city and return to Yardel the next day.[3] Just north of the village there is a hill crowned with a ruined church.[4]

Society[]

Demographics[]

A small elven enclave settled there in the last century or so, so it is assumed that part of the population has elven ancestry.

Notable people[]

Name Type Description
Briyakar Jurrell NPC An elf practitioner of hemocraft and a member of the Tombtakers. Her family moved to Nogvurot when the village became impoverished.
Gergran Beldehr NPC A tall dwarf who tried to lure the Tombtakers to the Graydowns Road to attack them in an ambush. Lucien Tavelle (with the help of the Somnovem) discovered his plan and made him run away.[5]
Unnamed baker NPC Owner of a bakery that stayed open at least since Jurrell's childhood. She said they baked the best buns in the region.[6]

History[]

In the last century or so a small enclave of elves settled in Yardel for a jewelers' venture; in said community Briyakar Jurrell was born, and she spent at least part of her childhood there. However, at some point after that a failed crop in the region empoverished the community, and some of them left; Jurrell's family moved west, to Nogvurot.[7]

The village survived, although not in the best economic conditions, since with a few coins it was possible to buy a cabin, and in 831 PD Jurrell returned to Yardel with her friends, the Tombtakers, staying there for a while. While living in Yardel, Lucien Tavelle spent most of his time reading a journal recovered from Aeor, gaining new knowledge and power from the Somnovem (the philosophers connected to the item).[8][9] That knowledge was shared with his friends after the tiefling prevented them from accepting a fake job that would have ended with them dead,[10] and they decided to use that power to shape the world according to their wishes and make it a better place for them; Jurrell wanted to make Yardel prosperous again, making its fields blossom until they burst, so that no one there would go hungry again.[11]
