Wrayne was one of Avalir's scientists, and the wife of Senior Sightwarden Cerrit Agrupnin. As an NPC in Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, Wrayne is played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.

Description[]

Appearance[]

While Wrayne is never physically shown or described, since both of her children are eisfuura (like their father), it is more than likely that their mother was an eisfuura/aarakocra woman. If her son's code name for her, "Clear Eye", is literal, she had light eyes and/or good eyesight.

Personality[]

Wrayne was a calm and soft-spoken woman, who maintained her composure even in stressful situations,[2] although if she was overwhelmed she could choose to walk away from the conflict.[3]

According to Cerrit, she was brilliant and worked at her own pace.[4]

Biography[]

Wrayne was married to Cerrit Agrupnin, a detective in the floating city of Avalir. They had been together for several years, having one daughter, Maya, and one son, Kir, living all together in a house in the neighborhood of Cloudstone.[5] Although the pair were fond of each other, Cerrit spent too much time working with the Eyes of Avalir, estranged from both his wife and children (though without actively neglecting the latter). Faced with this difficult situation, Wrayne chose to take refuge in her own work as a scientist.[6] While she and Cerrit were separated in practice, he told his children that their mother was away exclusively due to work.[7]

On the eve of the Calamity Wrayne was in Gwessar, in a long-term research trip; therefore she wasn't aware of the events that were happening in Avalir until Maya and Kir appeared where she was thanks to the two Runes of Recall that Orwyn, Cerrit's work partner, had prepared for him to give to the children,[8] knowing they would be save with their mother, wherever she was.[9][10]

That same night, just before the City of Crowns was destroyed, Wrayne used her son's sending stone to contact Cerrit, telling him that their children were safe and asking him to confirm that he was coming to them. After the detective answered in a worrying way she sent Maya and Kir inside to talk with her husband alone, trying to clarify if the detective was saying goodbye. However, the conversation gave the rogue determination to confirm that he would return to his family, whereupon Wrayne reminded him that she and their children loved him, before Avalir's surge of magical energy cut off communication between the two.[11]

After weeks flying over land and sea, Cerrit rejoined Wrayne, Maya, and Kir at Gwessar.[12]

Appearances and mentions[]

Trivia[]

  • Her name could be a variation of Rayne, which in turn seems to come from the Proto-Germanic raginą (counsel by the gods).
  • Just like Cerrit, she seemed to be fond of Kir's code names for his family members, since she was willing to use hers when speaking with her husband in front of their son.[13]
  • It is unknown how long did Orwyn had the Runes of Recall keyed to Wrayne, since, while he could have prepared them just before he died, they could also been a great safety precaution. They did know each other and had a cordial relationship, since Orwyn invited both Wrayne and Cerrit to dinner the last peaceful day in Avalir.[14]
  • While it was never confirmed what was the region of Gwessar in which Wrayne was doing her research, Aabria Iyengar stated that she hoped she (and subsequently the rest of her family) stayed with the Qoniira Tetrarchy, since that culture survived the Calamity in their capital, Niirdal-Poc.[15]
