The Wildemount Wildlings is a summer camp based in Nicodranas. It was founded by Veth Brenatto during Misuthar 837 PD.

Functions[]

The Wildemount Wildlings is a camp for talented young adventurers, mages, fighters, and rogues. The goal is to train these talented youngsters into fighters or defenders for their own villages, wherever they might come from.[1] They are taught many useful skills and can freely practice and refine their own abilities. There are often guest instructors that give the youngsters special lessons and workshops. The program is described as very rigorous, including an obstacle course. However campers also have access to fun beach activities, such as surfing.[2]

The curriculum includes basic shooting, hunting, and tracking skills, how to pick a lock and how to disarm a bomb.[3]

Buildings[]

Mess Hall[]

Cabins[]

There are currently four named cabins for campers to stay in:[1]

Happy Fun Cabin[]

A reference to the "Happy Fun Ball of Tricks" or just "Happy Fun Ball", which is a name given to the Heirloom Sphere by Twiggy and the Mighty Nein.

Shakäste Cabin[]

Named after Shakäste, an ally of the Mighty Nein.

A5 Cabin[]

Named after an Aeorian crash site that was visited by the Mighty Nein.

Balleater Cabin[]

The Balleater, formerly the Squalleater, was a ship owned by the Mighty Nein. Notably, Yeza recommended against this name for the cabin.

People[]

The Wildemount Wildlings camp is operated by Veth Brenatto with constant help from Yeza and the Mighty Nein. Aside from the fulltime staff, many members and allies of the Mighty Nein donate their time as guest instructors, teaching lessons and giving lectures. During its premiere session, the camp received 13 or 14 incoming campers, their average ages being around 13-15 (with some exceptions).

  • Soldes (Xhorhasian male wizard)
  • Naphalene of the Air Ashari (from Zephrah)
  • Pidge (dragonborn rogue from Draconia)
  • Luc (too young to be an official camper, but still participated)[1]

History[]

Veth first mentioned that she was thinking about opening the camp at the conclusion of the Second Campaign, describing it as "a little summer camp to teach young adventurers how to stealth, and sneak, and fire crossbows, and maybe learn a little magic." She invited Caleb to come teach at it, and he accepted.[5]

The first session started off to some unfortunate timing, with Veth being whisked away to help in sealing Uk'otoa. Yeza had to step in for her at the last minute, being the one to welcome the first batch of incoming campers. Veth messaged him via Jester's Sending to move the campers to higher ground during the Mighty Nein's battle against the leviathan when he escaped.[6]

However, despite Veth's initial absence, the first camp ended up being a smashing success. It started off a little slow without her, but once she rejoined the camp, everything went great. An incident did occur during the first session: Yasha was teaching a class that resulted in a camper's death. Luckily, the guest arts and crafts teacher, Jester Lavorre, was there to heal and restore the child, who thought that it was amazing and wanted to do it again, and was due to come back next summer.[7]

This incident ended up being a bit of a publicity boost, advertising that the camp has real danger, which resulted in twice as many signups for the next year. However the camp now asks for donations to include diamonds for spell components in case of another incident.[8]

The camp remained active over the next few years, welcoming more campers. Luc eventually began teaching classes himself (in stealth, beginner spellcraft, and beginner alchemy) and became one of the senior counselors.[9] However, during the apogee solstice of 843 PD some sea creatures attacked Nicodranas,[10] and despite Luc's desire to lead other young adventurers to face the danger, Veth and Yeza refused, hosting the campers in their own home to keep them safe while they waited for their parents to come pick them up.[11]

Trivia[]

  • Attending the camp is completely free because of an entirely legal arrangement between Veth and The Gentleman.[12]
  • The Wildemount Wildlings provides its campers with custom flasks and t-shirts.[13]
  • Veth wrote the guidebook for the camp.[14]
  • As of winter 2024, Sam Riegel was running a campaign for his children and their friends set in the Wildlings summer camp. He also revealed that the characters were surprisingly rule-abiding campers.[15]
