Andy, commonly referred to as Whitestone Andy,[1] was a boy who lived in Whitestone during Laudna's childhood. As an NPC, he was played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Andy appeared, unnamed, in the shadow Whitestone the party entered while in search of Laudna's soul after her death. He was 12 to 13 years old and had a shaggy mop of red hair.[2]

Biography[]

Background[]

When Laudna was a young girl, she was considered the freak of the town, but she had a crush on a young boy that she went to school with. She remembered that he had thrown dirt in her face at one point.[3]

"From the Boughs" (3x37)[]

Andy appeared in one of Laudna's memories in the shadow simulacrum of Whitestone. He was talking to Laudna, addressing her as "Matilda", and he told her he was being teased by other boys because she had been following him. He asked if she wanted to play a game called "Secret Treasures" where he'd give her something if she told him a secret. When Imogen telepathically contacted Laudna and urged her not to trust him, Laudna admitted she was unsure about agreeing, but that she liked him. When Laudna stepped away from Andy, he threw a fistful of dirt at her and her image faded away. When Orym studied him, he determined that although his armor class was significantly lower than Orym's, his hit points were significantly higher, indicating that the image of Andy was not what it appeared to be.[4]

"A Gathering of Heroes" (3x76)[]

During Bells Hells' second visit to Whitestone, Laudna, Imogen, and Fearne met a crepe seller working next to the Sun Tree, and when she realized that he was named Andrew and had the expected age, the Ruidusborn sorcerer assumed he was Whitestone Andy, her girlfriend's former crush/bully. Imogen tried to make him apologize to Laudna who, in turn, was somewhat disappointed at him for the unremarkable life he had now; Andrew became more and more nervous and annoyed, and when the three witches explained that he had annoyed young Matilda decades ago, he apologized, although when he admitted he didn't exactly remember the incident and pointed that there were several men called "Andy" in town, the adventurers realized he might not be "Whitestone Andy" after all. The rest of Bells Hells compensated their friends' behavior when they arrived, by purchasing the crepes Andrew had prepared.

Appearances and mentions[]

Quotations[]

  • "I've been noticing you following me lately, Matilda. Why is that? It's okay, just making the other boys tease me on it, you know?"[5]

Trivia[]

  • There were at least three boys named Andy/Andrew that could have been Whitestone Andy, one of them surnamed "Darrence".[6]
    • If Andrew the crepe seller is, in fact, Whitestone Andy, he is "back on the market" (suggesting he is no longer in a relationship).[7]
  • Marisha confirmed that Matilda's childhood crush on Whitestone Andy (even though it had started as a joke) had been sincere and she found him really cute,[8] although her feelings were unrequited, and the mean boy didn't deserve her affection.[9]
