Waylon Amaredda is a gnome Scalebearer of the Platinum Sanctuary in Vasselheim. As an NPC, Waylon Amaredda is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Waylon is a young[3] gnome with tanned skin, green eyes, and a blonde pompadour. When encountered by Chetney Pock O'Pea in the Platinum Sanctuary, he was wearing the uniform of the Scalebearers.[4]

Biography[]

Waylon grew up in Vasselheim as a follower of the Platinum Dragon. He joined the Platinum Sanctuary as an acolyte in his youth, and it was around that time that he became a great admirer of Chetney's craftsmanship and of C-Pop Industries, following him for decades, collecting his various pieces of furniture from all over Exandria to furnish his home (which he described as "practically a museum" in Chetney's honor), gifting his toy creations to local children, and becoming an enthusiastic member of the "C-Popper" community, considering Chetney a true master of his craft.[5]

In 843 PD he encountered Chetney in person for the first time during a meeting of the Exandrian Accord to discuss dealing with Ludinus Da'leth's plan to release Predathos, and breathlessly told him all about his passion and admiration. The toymaker, overwhelmed, simply hugged him.[6] However, when Waylon invited Chetney to visit his home, Chetney politely declined, citing how busy the group was. Waylon revealed the network of "dozens" of Chetney admirers around Exandria, superfans who called themselves "C-Poppers".[7] He tentatively requested a "paintie" with his hero and was assured they'd set up an appointment to make it happen.[8]

A few minutes later, Laudna accepted his invitation to visit and the whole group went along. Waylon's home, which he called "the Chateau de C-POP", was a combination shrine and museum of Chetney's works, stuffed with all manner of his furniture, toys, and knickknacks. Chetney was overcome with joy that his craftsmanship was being recognized at last, and the party decided to spend the night there.[9]

Before going to bed, Fearne Calloway spoke with Waylon and told him she preferred to talk to him instead of stealing. She asked if he would be willing to sell her his wooden egg, promising to find him another, and assuring him that it was a gift for the toymaker, her future husband; the Scalebearer, however, wasn't willing to sell, nor to exchange it for a wooden representation of the druid. When he went back to bed, Fearne immediately tried to steal the egg, but a trap captured her arm and Waylon had to come to free her while praying to the Platinum Dragon for patience. He warned her that his god was always watching.[10]

The next day Waylon woke up early to cook breakfast for Bells Hells, using the best ingredients (including blessed vegetables from a grove of the Wildmother) for Chetney's, and giving Fearne only one biscuit; as the adventurers were eating Laudna commented that if someone wanted to make Chetney's work more valuable, they would kill him, and their host, after assuring them he would never do anything like that, cast a spell to cleanse the food and get rid of any toxin or impurity. Later, after Chetney asked Waylon to find more of his fans, the latter spoke with him in private and warned him about Fearne, and the toymaker simply thanked him for his loyalty. As the adventurers were leaving, Waylon reminded them that any wooden piece they had would always be welcome in his house, and Chetney surprised him with a parting gift that made him cry a little: a wooden peacock with a moving tail.[11]
