Vusono is a half-giant cleric of the Ruiner. As an NPC, Vusono is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Vusono is a goliath woman with claw scars down her chin and dull stone-gray eyes with burning coal pupils. She wears fur hide armor and has the symbol of her deity on full display on her chestpiece.[2]

She is an aggressive woman who tries to hide other emotions.[3]

Biography[]

At some point in her life Vusono became a follower of Gruumsh the Ruiner, and learned how to channel his power in the form of divine magic.

During the Crisis of the Red Solstice of 843 PD, the gods sent several of their followers to fight against the alliance between the Ruby Vanguard and the Kreviris Imperium, since they were working to free Predathos the God Eater. Vusono was present among the holy warriors that traveled from Lake Umamu to Ruidus, prepared to fight the forces of the Red End and potentially seal it along with its vessel. In the tunnels they found Bells Hells, who claimed that they had dealt with Predathos, but when an angel confirmed that Imogen Temult had the entity inside of her the army prepared to fight.[4]

Vusono stepped forward, declaring that the adventuring party had to die, and used Divine Intervention to ask the Ruiner to smite them; however, when the silhouette of the god faced the Red End's vessel, it backed away. Vusono was confused, and another warrior, Okirai, explained they couldn't touch or kill the vessel without freeing Predathos again. When the adventurers declared they had things to discuss, Vusono maintained a boastful attitude until she was told by Laudna to move away, since they wouldn't talk to her. Dorian Storm tried a more gentle approach by flirting with Vusono, and although she reacted aggressively, she was slightly flattered. Eventually she and the other warriors allowed Bells Hells to return to Exandria, after receiving confirmation from the gods.[5]

Appearances and mentions[]

Quotations[]

  • "Now, let them be smited! Come down, great one, and devour those who would devour you!"[6]

Trivia[]

  • There is some confusion over whether it was Vusono that performed the Divine Intervention, and what her profession was. Although the person is described as a worshiper of the Ruiner with her same gray but coal-like eyes, at one point, Matt refers to the Intervention being done by "this individual in front of Vusono"[7], and later, when Marisha asks, "Is that the name of the Barbarian?" Matt replies, "Vusono, yeah."[8]
  • Assuming it was Vusono, she performed a successful Divine Intervention, but her god actively refused to grant her petition. This was the first time that had happened in Critical Role.
    • Depending on her level, that Divine Intervention could have been a guaranteed success (if she was level 20) or a rare opportunity wasted by Gruumsh's unwillingness.
