Plot summary[]

Scanlan, Vex'ahlia, Keyleth, Grog, Trinket, and Percy are walking through the underground ruins when Trinket senses danger, and they are attacked by an insectoid creature spitting globs of acidic eggs from cover. When the creature is defeated, Trysta contacts them and tells them the way out, through the city's cemetery and into the streets of Emon. Trinket picks up the scent of Pike and Vax'ildan, and they all celebrate together at a tavern. Pike tells the others that whoever hired the Clasp to deliver the dragon stone was a member of the Tal'Dorei Council. They decide to have Vax forge a letter purporting to be from Gregory Fince to Vox Machina, summoning them to the palace to tell General Krieg what they have learned.

This is successful, and Krieg is incredulous that anyone on the Council would dare attack a fellow Council member, although with Sovereign Uriel incapacitated everything is currently a challenge. He urges the party to end their involvement here, with the assurance all this will be investigated. However, Vox Machina is unsatisfied, wanting to talk to Uriel themselves. Scanlan disguises himself as Burt Reynolds, palace inspector, and tries to gain entrance but is stopped by the guards. However, the party then sees a cloaked figure identifying herself as a council member also being denied entrance, and follows her. It is Lady Allura Vysoren, who invites them to accompany her, as they have much to discuss.
