Born in Byroden, she and her twin brother Vax'ildan were raised there by their mother Elaina until they were taken to live in the elven city of Syngorn at the direction of their father, Syldor Vessar. She and Vax'ildan were unhappy, and left in their early adulthood to be on their own. In their travels, Vax'ahlia rescued a bear cub, Trinket, gaining a loyal animal companion.
During her adventures with Vox Machina, she became the wielder of the legendary bow Fenthras to fight against the Chroma Conclave and earned the blessing of Pelor, becoming the Champion of Pelor, to face Vecna. She fell in love with Percival de Rolo and, after their marriage, she took his surname and became Lady Vex'ahlia de Rolo.

"Like so many half-elves, Vex'ahlia has spent most of her life suffering the cool reception of a people who don't fully accept her.
Born of a human mother and an elven father—who only later in life took an interest in their existence—, Vex'ahlia and her twin brother Vax'ildan quickly realized the only people they could truly rely on in this world were each other.
It was at the age of ten when the two were taken from their mother, and brought to live in Syngorn, the isolated elven city for which their father was an ambassador. He quietly took them in, but always kept an icy distance, and after too many years of disdainful looks, the pair decided to leave his indifference behind, and set out on their own.
Vax took to the cities, stealing small trinkets and learning the ways of the thief, while Vex kept to the woods. She preferred the isolation. Always the keen observer, she learned to hunt and to track, to spy, and to shoot. And through a series of fateful events, earned herself a companion in the form of a bear—her own stolen Trinket—to fight alongside her and protect her fiercely. Also, he is adorable—and gives expert massages."
Vex'ahlia, like her twin brother Vax'ildan, is a twenty-eight-year-old half-elf with hazel eyes. She is identical in appearance to Vax, albeit two inches shorter than him at around 5'5" tall. She wears her long, dark brown hair in a thick braid, which is usually accompanied with blue feathers. The feathers were a gift from Vax so he could help her through a dark period of her life and she eventually gave them back by braiding them into his hair during his resurrection ritual.
After joining the Slayer's Take, Vex has the brand of the guild on her right arm.
Compared to Vax, Vex is the more pragmatic of the twins. She is very deceptive and can usually bluff her way through various social encounters. Her charisma has also made her good at haggling.
Her tendency to haggle stems from her frugality. Her frugal nature is the result of Vax and herself having to fend for themselves during their teenage years. Unofficially, she is the treasurer for Vox Machina, and often only gives cryptic answers when questioned by the group about how much gold they have.
But beneath her flirtatious attitude, self-confidence, and outgoing exterior lay a girl who feels broken and unwanted. This may be a symptom of her upbringing in Syngorn, where she and Vax had been judged not only due to their status as half-elves, but also because they were bastard children of their ambassador father. Compared to her brother, Vex was much more affected by the elves' treatment of her. As such, she developed a mentality where she would constantly try to make herself look like she came from money so that people would respect her. She will take to heart any insults people with wealth and status make towards her and has a tendency to dislike someone if they seem like they are judging her. Such behavior has led to people assuming she was obsessed with wealth. Only a handful of people, like Percy, have ever truly known the kind of person she was.
One of Vex's personal challenges was to focus less on resentment and vengeance, and more on forgiveness and growth, but she often found it difficult to remember in the moment, which is why she wrote "sinaeth," the Elvish word for "forgive," on her bow, where she would see it every time she took a shot.
Vex'ahlia's alignment was originally neutral good, just like Keyleth and Scanlan, but became chaotic neutral, like Grog and Tiberius, due to many behaviors and actions culminating in the theft of Gern Blanston's flying broom and then lying about it. After a long while, due to having reflected on her choices and making an effort to change herself, her alignment changed once more—this time to chaotic good—after showing genuine concern for two enslaved aasimar and wanting to save them.
Vex, along with her brother Vax, was born in the humble village of Byroden due to the union of a human woman named Elaina and an elven man named Syldor Vessar. The twins lived with Elaina for the first ten years of their life before they were sent to live in Syngorn, where their father lived. While there, they underwent training to become assassins. They also learned the Abyssal language in classes together, apparently at their father's insistence.
After several years of scorn from the Syngornian elves, the twins set off on their own. They returned to Byroden, only to see their childhood home destroyed and their mother gone. Upon learning that a dragon was responsible for the destruction, Vex'ahlia spent the next few years of her life studying about dragons in the chance that should she find the wyrm that killed Elaina, she would be able to exact revenge on them alongside her brother. Vax sharpened his skills and daggers as a rogue, whereas Vex honed her prowess as a ranger.
Vex found Trinket after being kidnapped by poachers. She escaped the cage they stuffed her in and killed the man and woman who took her. She went up to the half-dead bear the poachers had captured and decided to put the noble beast out of its misery. Only afterward did she notice the bear cub squirming beneath his now dead mother. She took the cub with her back to her and her brother's camp, not telling him what happened or providing an explanation for the bear cub other than "You’re always finding trinkets to take with you… well, I wanted one of my own." She took it upon herself to raise the bear and Trinket has been unquestionably loyal ever since.
Vex'ahlia and her twin brother Vax'ildan were in the K'tawl Swamp near Stilben to investigate a possible curse. After the twins took down a shark-speaker, Keyleth suddenly appeared and offered to heal Vax's wounds. The twins were confused by the exhuberant druid, who had never heard of half-elves being mistreated before.
Back in Stilben, the twins interrogated an alchemist named Zeth, but he refused to talk. They were ambushed by assassins as soon as they left his shop. The twins hid in the sewers to watch over the shop, and when Zeth left, they stalked him to a sewer station, where Grog and Scanlan had just broken in. The twins attacked them on sight, but the two duos had to join forces when they were all attacked by a group of assassins, then Iselda, who entered through a magic mirror. During the fight, Keyleth arrived with her friend Tiberius, and they joined the battle. When Keyleth suggested all six of them group up to reach their common goal, Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia refused and left on their own.
Shortly afterward, Iselda kidnapped Vax'ildan by pulling him inside a mirror right in front of Vex'ahlia. Out of options, she called on the help of the others to help her rescue Vax. Scanlan's group turned her down, but Keyleth was eager to help. She followed Vex to the outskirts of town and was introduced to Trinket, who had been hiding in the forest. The trio then headed for the docks in search of Vax and ran again into the others. They all witnessed an explosion as Vax'ildan jumped out of a hole in the side of a ship, where he was being held captive.
The group decided to work together this time, and boarded the Mockingbird. They fought their way to Iselda as well as the source of the poison that has been plaguing the inhabitants of Stilben. They managed to kill her, stop a strange ritual, and escape through the previously made hole in the side of the ship. Afterward, they all headed to a tavern together.
While tracking the whereabouts of their friend Grog, the party that would one day become Vox Machina was directed to the Trickfoot household in Westruun, where they met Pike, who helped them rescue Grog from a lich. Later, the party had to split to find ingredients for a ritual to save Grog from the lich attempting to possess his body.
Vex'ahlia went with Vax'ildan and Grog to the Frostweald in search of the heart of a nymph. The team encountered basilisks on their way there, and Vex'ahlia was petrified in their fight, but Vax'ildan figured out that she could be cured by basilisk's blood. When the group encountered the nymph, she befriended Grog and brought him with her inside her pond for a while, and he refused to explain what happened when he resurfaced with the heart they had come to get.
When the entire group reunited, the other three were accompanied by Percival de Rolo, who helped them with the ritual. Vex first spoke of him as a stray they had picked up, but seemed impressed by his gunslinger skill when they fought together to keep the posessed Grog inside the ritual circle.
"The Story of Vox Machina" (Sx06) & Other Pre-Stream Events
Upon first arriving in Emon, Vex and Vax were briefly reunited with Syldor, the latter visiting the city for diplomatic reasons. The conversation was frosty, and the twins discovered that they now have a half-sister: Velora Vessar.
Trinket was nearly killed when Grog attempted to disarm a room full of traps by hitting the bear on his backside with the broad side of his axe, causing Trinket to charge straight into the traps, catching all of them. Vex was very angry with the goliath afterwards.
"Strange Bedfellows" (1x03)
After the group voted not to investigate a crevasse in the Underdark, Vex'ahlia and Keyleth decided to go anyway and took the group's flying carpet without permission. This proved to be useful to the group, as it led to the two women finding Clarota.
Due to Vox Machina killing a hydra that was the target of a magically binding contract for the Slayer's Take, the group agrees to join the bounty hunter guild to avoid being prosecuted as poachers. . The guild huntmaster, Vanessa Cyndrial, told them that they would be split into to groups to undertake a trial. Upon hearing that they would be separated, Vex'ahlia and Vax'ildan protested.
"Trial of the Take: Part 1" (1x18)
Vex, along with Percy, Grog, and Scanlan, was grouped with two members of the guild, Lyra and Zahra Hydris, to track down a white dragon. Before leaving for the trial, Vex headed down to the tavern to take a shot with Vax'ildan, the twins lamenting about being split apart for the next few days and wishing each other good luck on their separate trials.
The Slayer's Take loaned the party a Bag of Colding to carry the dragon's remains, and when it came time to decide who would carry it, Vex'ahlia and Zahra simultaneously jumped at the chance. They settled the dispute by roshambo; Vex's rock won against Zahra's scissors. Later that night, during watch, Vex'ahlia and Zahra bonded over their terrible fathers and being left alone after the death of a parent.
"Gunpowder Plot" (1x31)
As Vox Machina made their way through Whitestone, Vex'ahlia noticed that Percy was becoming increasingly violent in his quest for revenge. After the battle agianst Count Tylieri, she pinned Percy to a wall and inquired about his mental state. Percy responded that he was feeling "cruel, but in control", and she let him go.
As the group entered Whitestone Castle, Vax'ildan stopped his sister, saying he didn't have a good feeling about their situation, and pressed her to wear his Cloak of Elvenkind and to hide if needed. Although she initially protested, Vex'ahlia accepted the cloak.
After dealing the final blow to Professor Anders, Percy stood there, engulfed in the smoke from his pistol. Vex'ahlia kneeled next to him mid-battle, took his hand, and gently told him to remove his mask, snapping him out of his trance. The group managed to win the fight before chasing after their remaining enemies.
"Dangerous Dealings" (1x42)
Vox Machina considered allying themselves with the Clasp to provide help for the survivors in Emon. Vax'ildan was hesitant, and eventually told Vex'ahlia why. A long time ago, Vax'ildan discovered a plot to kidnap Vex'ahlia, and he had agreed to join the Westruun sect of The Clasp in exchange for her freedom. Vex'ahlia was shocked that he never told her, but thanked him.
"The Sunken Tomb" (1x44)
Vox Machina ventured into the ancient tomb of the Raven Queen's champion in search of his legendary armor, the Deathwalker's Ward. When they found it, Percy immediately reached for the armor, triggering a trap that instantly killed Vex'ahlia, who couldn't avoid it in time.
Kashaw attempted a Revivify ritual, during which Vax'ildan, looking up at the altar where the champion's body lay, saw a very faint drifting image of a dark female form looking on. Vax pulled his sister's body in close and angrily yelled at the form to take him instead. The form stepped forward in silence, her hand reached out towards Vax, and she nodded. The ritual succeeded and Vex came back to life, unaware of the deal that had taken place.
Vax'ildan attempted to lie to Vex'ahlia, telling her she had only been knocked out, but Grog immediately told her she had died. Percy admitted to being at fault, and Vax'ildan admitted that Kashaw revived her.
"Those Who Walk Away" (1x45)
After having Deathwalker's Ward examined by Keeper Yennen, Vex'ahlia claimed it. Later that day, while she was alone with Keyleth, she asked her point blank what had happened in the tomb, aware that something was being kept from her. Very reluctantly, Keyleth tells her that Vax offered the Raven Queen his life to save hers.
The next morning, Vex'ahlia foundher brother sleeping outside her door. She invited him in and told him she had heard a rumor he saved her life in "a really creepy sort of way." She gave him Deathwalker's Ward, and he accepted it reluctantly.
The group then traveled into the forest outside of Whitestone to release the wolf Galdric, ally to the Raven's Queen champion Purvan Suul, from the amulet they had found with the Deathwalker's ward. Vex'ahlia tries using the amulet on Trinket, and upon getting his permission through Keyleth's Speak with Animals spell, decides to use it in the future to store the bear when needed.
"Cindergrove Revisited" (1x46)
Vox Machina travelled to Pyrah and helped the survivors close a rift to the Elemental Plane of Fire, aided by a necromancer named Gern Blanston. Vex'ahlia noticed Gern's flying broom, and took it from him unnoticed. She quickly shoved the broom into the Bag of Holding, and convinced Gern it had fallen in the lava. This event signified a change in Vex's alignment from Neutral Good to Chaotic Neutral.
"The Family Business" (1x47)
That evening, in Scanlan's mansion, Vex'ahlia attempted to make the broom fly. She requested Scanlan's help, and they discovered the activating phrase: "candle" in Draconic. The next morning, she showed the flying broom to the others, who accused her of stealing it. Vex'ahlia defended herself, claiming she had been meaning to pay Gern for it, but that he left too quickly. She then began to fly above the dinner table and attempted to shoot arrows while flying, which proved to be quite difficult. She asked Percy if he could make improvements to the broom by adding a seat to it, to which he agreed, having already started drafting up plans for it.
"Into the Frostweald" (1x48)
Vex'ahlia took her brother apart to tell him about her research on the Raven Queen. She tried to convince him that she wasn't bad, and that being her champion was a good thing. She reminded him that she was proud of him and thankful for his sacrifice.
"Best Laid Plans..." (1x50)
In the mansion, Percy and Vex continued the modifications to her broom, the gunslinger surprised at how much of a quick learner she was while helping him. With her assistance, Percy managed to install a tether to the broom to ensure that Vex would not lose it should she fall. Percy remarked how constructive the whole thing was, saying to the ranger that they should "do this again sometime".
"The Kill Box" (1x52)
During Grog's battle against Kevdak, Vex, already having released Trinket earlier and seeing Grog on the edge of death, flew out on her broom and absorbed the goliath into the Raven's Slumber Crystal. As she flew away, she ends up taking several deadly blows, but despite the grievous wounds, Vex managed to hold on and escape with Grog in tow. SHortly after, Vex, badly wounded and hovering above the battlefield , released Grog from within. The barbarian emerged from the crystal and descended from fifty feet in the air, dealing the killing blow on Kevdak.
Vex'ahlia asked Vax, then Keyleth, about their feelings for each other. When she learned of Keyleth's hesitation, she pushed her to accept her own feelings, and not to let the uncertain future keep each other apart.
Vax'ildan, along with Vex'ahlia, Trinket, Pike, and Keyleth, headed to the Raven's Crest in Vasselheim. Before Vax entered, Vex apologized for putting her brother in this place and agreed to wait outside. They returned shortly after to Vex'ahlia who fussed over her brother, who was covered in blood from the pool he walked into, and the other two filled her in as Vax took a nap on Trinket.
Later that evening, Percy and Vex'ahlia walked around Whitestone. Percy took Vex back to the castle to find Zahra and assigned her to take the Anders crypt and convert it into a small shrine for the Raven Queen. Vex asked who this was for, and Percy answered that it was for her brother, so he can stay with them. Vex kissed him on the cheek, and promised she wouldn't tell Vax or the others about Percy's own visit to the Raven's Crest. When she came back to the castle, Vax was waiting for her, and told her to be careful around Percy. Vex'ahlia responded that she had no idea what he was talking about.
"The Feywild" (1x59)
Vox Machina journeyed to the Feywild in order to reach the city of Syngorn to gather information. On the way there, Keyleth taught Vex how to cast Speak with Animals. Overjoyed, Vex'ahlia spoke with Trinket for the first time, making sure he was really ok with being put in the Raven's Slumber crystal.
That evening, in the mansion, Vex anxiously asked Percy if she looked put together, like she comes from money. Percy reassured her she looked too happy to come from money, and asked if this has to do with Syngorn. Vex'ahlia told him that everyone who judged the twins as children were there. Percy reassured her, saying they are definitely not worth her. He promised to stay at her side while in the city.
"Heredity and Hats" (1x60)
The next day, the group visited the twin's father, Syldor, and his family. Devana, Syldor's wife, greeted them and brought in their sister, Velora. Syldor joined them shortly, curt as always but also tired and distracted. When he asked what else his children wanted of him, they responded that they didn't want or need anything from him. He seemed impressed to hear that the party had already killed two dragons, but made it clear that the twins' presence was an embarrassment to him. The twins angrily told him he should have left them with their mother. He responded that he thought they would be worth more, given that they had his blood in their veins, and apologized, telling them their sister admired them and that they were an inspiration to her and to others. He regretted his actions toward them but knew it was too late.
Saundor then left briefly and came back with with diplomatic papers granting the group passage through the city and a single meeting with the High Warden. Upon reading the parchment, Percy thanked Syldor, but told out that he'd need to amend one of the names - it's actually "Lady Vex'ahlia, Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt". When it was time to part, Velora hugged and kissed her siblings, and the twins told her they loved her. Vex gave her an owlbear feather, and they told her she was not their half-sister, but their sister.
Once outside, Vex immediately hugged Percy, and he confirmed the title he gave her was real, since they did kill two of the three barons of Whitestone the last time that they were there. There was no house that came with it because Scanlan burned it, and no money - just a crypt and a title.
"The Echo Tree" (1x63)
At night, Vax talked privately to his sister, saying she seemed more than usually on edge while they were in Syngorn, and that he noticed how much it affected her when Percy gave her the title of Baroness. Vax told her she was already perfect, at least in his eyes, and hoped she believed in herself as much as he did.
The next morning, Vex went to Percy and thanked him again for the title, saying it was the only time anyone stuck up for her that much other than her brother. But she realized that meant she now owed her allegiance and fealty to him. Percy corrected her, saying she owed allegiance to his sister, Cassandra. He lets her know that the crypt she now owns is the one he had outfitted with a shrine to the Raven Queen, and that she'll have to complete a hunt.
Vox Machina faced off against Saundor, a corrupted entity of the Feywild. Saundor immediately singled out Vex'ahlia, saying the two of them were very much alike. If she were to embrace him, he promised to give her the means to protect her home, asking in return only her heart. The speech seemed to have an effect on Vex'ahlia, but she replied that her heart was already someone else's. After the battle, Vex, near death's door, began second-guessing her decision to attack, saying that perhaps she should have accepted his offer, but Percy assured her that Saundor was terrible. Keyleth agreed, telling her that she shouldn't let any man tell her she needs him to be great. Vex'ahlia claimed Saundor's bow, Fenthras, the Vestige of Divergence that they had come to seek.
"The Streets of Ank'Harel" (1x65)
Vex'ahlia was approached by her brother in Ank'Harel. He asked about what Saundor had said to her, saying that he could tell she was still upset about it. After pressing her, Vex admitted that Saundor knew a lot about her faults, and that he was not completely wrong. Vax tried to convince her that the corrupted archfey was wrong, that her strength of character ran deep, and that she had always been a good person. Vex'ahlia finally told to her brother about the event Saundor had alluded to during their fight - long ago, she was taken by poachers, and killed them all before escaping with Trinket, who was still a cub.
Vex broke down in tears, saying that while she knew her heart was always in the right place, she feared sometimes that actions spoke louder than intentions, and that if things she had done could be read the wrong way, then perhaps she needed to change her ways. Vax reassured her, saying she'd always been bold, and that it was not a crime.
Later, in the streets, the party came upon a soothsayer and asked him for information. While the others were distracted, Vex'ahlia asked a fourth question: had she made the right choice? The man flipped a tarot card, and told her that her decision would bring unity and a new dawn, which vex seemed satisfied to hear.
"Cloak and Dagger" (1x68)
The group faced off against Anna Ripley and Orthax on the island of Glintshore. When Ripley killed Percy, Vex'ahlia screamed in pain and flew down to Percy's body, refusing to leave him. When the entire group attacked Ripley at once, Vex'ahlia put an arrow through her heart and one in her mouth as she screamed. Vex'ahlia and Keyleth tried to heal Percy, to no avail.
"Passed Through Fire" (1x69)
Percy's body was rushed to Whitestone, where Pike performed a resurection ritual. During the ritual, Vex'ahlia pleaded with Percy to return, telling him Whitestone needed him, and that she needed him too, then kissed him, saying that her heart belonged to him. The ritual was successful, and Percy came back to life.
Later, Vex showed the rest of the group a letter that she found in Percy's coat pocket saying goodbye to all of them in case he died. She snuck into his room, and put the letter back into his coat.
Before the fight with Vorugal, Vex'ahlia engraved the elvish word "sinaeth" onto Fenthras. She was the one to get the killing blow on the white dragon, shooting an arrow into his heart.
"The Elephant in the Room" (1x72)
In the mansion, Vex and Vax shared a bottle of wine, and discussed the previous battle. Vax'ildan told Vex'ahlia that he had known for a while about her feelings for Percy, and questionned why she was hiding them from him still. Vex told him she believed Percy didn't like her that way, that she was afraid it would be awkward, and that she was already happy with Trinket and Vax by her side. Vax'ildan insisted, telling her she could be dead tommorow and that it was meaningless to wait.
Vex'ahlia then asked Percy to take a walk with her in the forest. Vex inquired about his state after being resurected only a few days ago, then asked if he knew what Fenthras meant. She told him it means growth and protection, wondering if he focused so long on his betrayals that he became them, then wanted to do the same thing to Vex. She shared that although she refused, she could feel the self-doubt and loathing echoing in her mind after their encounter. Percy responded that he was trying not to dwell on things anymore, and Vex explained that that was precisely what she wanted to talk to him about. She was surprised when he told Ripley that he forgave her during their battle, after spending so much time focused on vengeance. Vex'ahlia showed Percy the word she carved on Fenthras, and he recognized its meaning, 'Forgive'. Vex explained that she carved it to remind herself that her attacks are not of vengeance. They both agreed that forgiveness was important, and that they did it not for the sake of whoever they forgave, but for themselves. Vex'ahlia then told Percy that he had to forgive that boy who did all of those things to get revenge, because it made him who he is today, saying that the fact he could forgive meant he would never be overtaken by the darkness that sometimes clouded his vision.
Before Percy walked away, he kissed Vex'ahlia, promising they would talk later.
"Where the Cards Fall" (1x75)
While in the City of Brass, Vex'ahlia insisted that the party purchase two young aasimar boys who were being sold as slaves in order to free them. This decision caused her alignment to change to Chaotic Good.
"The Siege of Emon" (1x78)
In Whitestone, Percy headed to Vex's room. Through the door, she asked if he was here for the "later" talk he promised her after they killed Vorugal. He said that he actually came to show her something, and Vex'ahlia opens the door, completely naked. Percy stammered a bit, then entered, closing the door behind him.
After a long and arduous battle, Vox Machina finally took down Throdak, the leader of the Chroma Conclave, who was also the one to kill Vex and Vax's mother, Elaina. After Vax'ildan dealt the final blow, Vex'ahlia flew to her brother, and the two of them hugged tightly.
While attempting to take down Raishan in Emon, Vex'ahlia was knocked unconscious, and succumbed to her wounds. Thankfully, Pike was able to cast Revivify on her, bringing her back almost instantly.
"What Lies Beneath the Surface" (1x81)
Vax'ildan walked in on Percy taking a bath in Whitestone castle, and sat at the other edge of the bathtub to have a short talk with him. As soon as Vax left, Vex came up from below the water gasping for breath: "I thought he'd never leave!"
"A Bard's Lament" (1x85)
After Scanlan awoke from his Resurrection ritual, he was angry at the group for having brought Kaylie to see his dead body after he had promised her he wouldn't die. Vex, who had been the one to get his daughter, was very shaken by his accusations, and felt even worse when she realized that she forgot to grab Scanlan's Onyx statuette after the battle with Raishan. She pleaded with Scanlan, who was accusing them of not caring, reminding him that she asked him many times how he was doing, but he only laughed and joked. Vex'ahlia insisted that Scanlan should talk to her daughter instead of treating her like a sacred object, to which he agreed. When Scanlan declared that he was leaving with Kaylie, Vex'ahlia handed him one of their Gatestones. After Scanlan was gone, Vex was angry at him for not having told them sooner about how he felt.
The next day, in Ank'Harel, the party was approached by Taryon Darrington, who asked to hire them as mercenaries. Unimpressed by him, Vex'ahlia said that he could tag along if he payed them 50,000 gold, to which he agreed, much to her surprise.
"Curious Tides" (1x89)
After Vax'ildan was killed in the fight against the Kraken, Pike performed a resurrection ritual. Vex, addressing the Raven Queen, offered to hunt down Orcus in exchange for her brother's safe return. The ritual succeeded.
"Jugs and Rods" (1x94)
After Vox Machina had taken care of all their unfinished business, they came back to Whitestone, and Cassandra told Vex about the history and responsibilities of her new title, Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt. Her duty would be to tend to the surrounding Parchwood, rooting out mundane and supernatural threats to Whitestone. For Vex's initiation, she would have to embark alone on a hunt, guided by the Dawnfather.
Deciding there was no reason to wait, Vex headed to the Sun Tree and began meditating, waiting for a vision from the Dawnfather. After a long time, she finally received a vision of a bipedal creature with six yellow eyes emerging from a pond. With some advice from Percy, Vex rode Trinket into the forest toward the Alabaster Sierras, where she found the pond from her vision, identified the footprints of the creature, and began following after it. She found the creature soon after, and managed to take it down, taking one of its hands as a trophy. After showing proof of her hunt, Cassandra congratulated her on becoming an official member of the Chamber of Whitestone.
As Vax saw his sister to her room, he mentioned that, since they had no work left to do, they may be parting ways soon; he to Zephrah with Keyleth, she staying in Whitestone with Percy. As Vax was leaving the room, he noticed Fenthras had achieved its exalted state.
"One Year Later..." (1x95)
During the following year, Vox machina took some time off. Vex spent some time trying to find the offspring of the Grey Render that she had hunted in the Parchwood. Though she was able to find it, her offerings of meat and other foods did no good, and the creature fled southward into the forest.
She also built herself a house in Whitestone, with a sanctuary for Trinket and a room for Tary, who had become her best friend, to stay in. She made amends with her father and became Whitestone's ambassador to Syngorn, and began building a teleportation circle in her house. With Tary's help, Vex'ahlia made a suit of white dragon leather armor out of Vorugal's hide. She also collected books and did research on Orcus and the Raven Queen. Vex'ahlia, Pike, Keyleth, and Tary opened a bakery togther in Whitestone called the Slayer's Cake, where she spent a lot of her time working.
It was revealed in "Elysium" (1x104) that at some point during that year, Vex'ahlia and Percival married in secret.
As the end of the year approached, Vox machina reunited in Dalen's Closet for a vacation. Due to a prank war between Vax and Taryon, Vex and Percy found their hotel room completely trashed by two giant mastiffs. Vex'ahlia was furious, and set Trinket loose on Vax'ildan, allowing the bear to relieve himself on her brother. She also confronted Tary, but forgave him.
"Taryon, My Wayward Son" (1x97)
Percy and Vex wandered down to the mysterious orb that still sat beneath the castle. Most of the people researching it had left in the past year, and no new progress has been made in that time. They pondered it for a moment, until Vex decided to try shooting it with an Oracle Arrow. To her surprise, it worked, and she saw a vision of what seemed to be another plane, with an inverse orb, in a landscape of broken stone and shadow, and an obsidian tower in the distance.
A man named Aes Adan asked to meet with Vox Machina, and the group is immediately suspicious, as he went by "Meat Man", a name Scanlan had used before. As Aes left the tavern, Vex'ahlia followed him out and confronted him in an alley, hugging through the illusion of his body to find Scanlan hiding beneath. Vex'ahlia told him that they missed him, then scolded him for leaving so abruptly, demanding he tell her what he had been up to. Scanlan then attempted to cast Modify Memory on her, but she interrupted the spell.
"Thar Amphala" (1x101)
Before Vox Machina departed for Thar Ampala, Tary told Vex that he’d have to stay behind to repair Doty. Vex tried to find a gift for him, but Tary simply asked her to rip up the check he wrote when they first met, and she told him she already had.
"Race to the Tower" (1x102)
Vox Machina faced Vecna at the top of Entropis, but things quickly turned dire for them. Vex was killed by Vecna's Power Word Kill. While she was dead, her brother was the target of a Disintegrate spell, and his body vanished into ashes. Pike managed to revive Vex'ahlia, and the group fleed to the Feywild via Keyleth's Plane Shift. Once they arrived, Vex'ahlia asked where Vax'ildan was.
"The Fate-Touched" (1x103)
Vex learned what had happened to her brother, and Keyleth said she might be able to bring him back. The group decided to rest, still in shock from the battle and the loss they had suffered. In the night, Vax'ildan appeared, brought back on borrowed time by the Raven Queen.
Vox Machina travelled to Elysium in order to ask for the gods' help in defeating Vecna. When they went to Pelor, who asked which of them would stand forward and earn his blessing. Vex, overwhelmed in Pelor's presence, was speechless until Keyleth tried to claim the title of Champion of Pelor. With Keyleth's encouragement, Vex agreed to be tested to see if she was worthy.
For her trial, Vex'ahlia had to ascend to the top of Pelor's tower before time ran hout. She was helped by her friends, Scanlan using True Polymorph to transform her into a red dragon, while Grog, Vax, and Percy tackled the three planetars blocking her path. As Vex hovered above, having completed her trial, Pelor asked Vox Machina what she meant to them. They each answered in turn: Keyleth said that Vex gave her her power. Scanlan said that she had flaws, but that she did everything to protect her family, and was the most perfect of all of them. Grog said that she teached him and cheered him on. Pike called her a sister. Percy called her his heart and his judgment, then let slip that they are betrothed. Finally, Vax said that she was every hope he had; himself, but better.
As they finished, Vex'ahlia descended as a bright second star from the tower above, newly blessed with the Blessing of the Dawnfather. To his new champion, Pelor granted a small, opal-like stone, a bead of divinity to be used in the construction of a Prime Trammel. The group left the citadel with a procession of souls and planetars paying respects to Vex.
"The Fear of Isolation" (1x105)
While looking for Ioun, Scanlan began playing a wedding march on his flute. Percy admitted to Vex that he may have panicked and hinted that they had eloped together. Vex and Percy brought everyone up to speed about the secret wedding, explaining that they didn't want to make a big thing out of it.
"Dark Dealings" (1x112)
Vex'ahlia shifted into the Ethereal Plane in order to acquire the When, but by leaving the Material Plane, she accidentally removed Vox Machina's cover from Vecna's divination. Delilah Briarwood arrived shortly after and Dispelled the mansion, ejecting all of its occupants, and the group had to flee to the Feywild.
"Vecna, the Ascended" (1x114)
When the time came to face Vecna's ascended form, he revealed that he had trapped Vex and Vax's sister, Velora, inside his skeletal chest as a human shield. Velora was killed in the fight and fell. Vex flew to her and managed to catch her lifeless body, then placed her down safely on the ground while the battle continued.
Near the end of the fight, Vex found Percy, and the two of them held hands while Vecna was finally banished.
"The Chapter Closes" (1x115)
Velora was revived by Kashaw after the battle ended, and the group flies down to Vasselheim, where they confirm that Vecna has been defeated. Shortly after, the Raven Queen appeared to take Vax'ildan away for good.
Vax said his goodbye to everyone, taking a moment to talk with Vex'ahlia, who wouldn't accept that he had to go. After Vax was gone, Vex told Keyleth that even though there was never a marriage ceremony, she still considered Keyleth to be her sister. On Vex's request, Allura sent a message to Syldor to let him know that his daughter Velora was safe, and that Vex would bring her home soon, but not quite yet.
The party then spent some time in Pandemonium to retrieve Grog's trapped soul. Once they came back, Pike gave her a raven feather from Vax's armor.
"Dalen's Closet" (Sx47)
In the months after coming back from Pandemonium, Vex'ahlia gave birth to a daughter, Vesper Elaina de Rolo.
About a year after the defeat of Vecna, Percy and Vex'ahlia had an official wedding in Dalen's Closet. She chose Taryon as her Man of Honor, and spent the day before the reception making sure everyone involved was doing their part. During the dinner, everyone began to doze off and fell unconscious, and Vex and Percy were taken away by humanoids dressed in black.
Vex and Percy came to consciousness with hands bound together behind them and shackled to their ankles, on the edge of a cliff dropping a few hundred feet into the ocean below. Sylas Briarwood revealed himself as the one behind this, claiming that he was there to exact revenge on them for killing his beloved Delilah, then threw them both from the cliff and into the ocean, where the heavy manacles dragged them down deeper and deeper. Percival managed to free himself, but could not carry Vex'ahlia with him, and swam to the surface to call for help. Vex'ahlia continued to sink, and eventually, drowned.
The rest of the group eventually caught up to them, and Vex'ahlia was brought to shore, were Pike successfully cast Revivify. They all headed back on the cliff to confront Silas, and Vex'ahlia activated the blessing of Pelor, sunlight emanating from her and hurting the vampire. Pike cast Spiritual Weapon to create a bow for Vex, she eradicated his mist form, destroying Sylas permanently.
Since everyone was there, the group agreed to have the ceremony immediately, on the cliffside. Just as Pike is about to pronounce them husband and wife, Scanlan broke in to ask if he can offer them a wish: that Vex's brother would be able to speak to her for just a moment on her wedding day. He cast Wish, and Vax'ildan appeared. He spoke slowly, showing little emotion, and hesitated when Vex hugged him before hugging back. He told her he was safe and always with them, and the his love would never dim. Vex then urged him to Keyleth, to which he spoke briefly before disappearing again.
As revealed in "The Chapter Closes" (1x115), Vex built a statue to Trinket in Whitestone and a yearly festival was established to celebrate both bears and feats of engineering. She and Percy traveled often, but returned to Whitestone long enough for the birth of their children, of which they had at least five. She also trained Cassandra to become not only a leader of Whitestone, but a protector as well.
Vex never stopped trying to contact her lost brother. Though she never succeeded, she did notice the population of ravens in Whitestone increasing over the years.
The Legend of Vox Machina
Percival de Rolo
- → Main article: Relationship between Percy and Vex'ahlia.
Vex and Percy have a history of casually flirting with each other, she more so than him. Percy also tends to make custom arrows for her. Over time, Vex developed genuine feelings for the gunslinger, as proven when she rejected Saundor and his advances, claiming that "[her] heart is someone else's", in addition to kissing him during his resurrection ritual. After Percy kissed her in the forest outside Draconia, their relationship soon grew into that of being lovers, even leading to their becoming intimate with each other for the first time prior to the siege of Emon.
Vex and Taryon quickly became best friends, bonding over their similar personalities and having terrible fathers. When Vex'ahlia had her house built in Whitestone, she saved a room for Tary to live in. Tary helped her create her white dragon armor, and was her best man at their wedding.
- → Main article: Relationship between Trinket and Vex'ahlia.
Vex and Trinket became companions when she accidentally trusted poachers too much and ended up being captured by them. She killed the poachers, put the dying large female bear out of her misery, and saved her young cub. They have been together since.
- → Main article: Relationship between Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia.
Vex and Vax usually work together when scouting and ambushing opponents. They haven't been separated for very long since birth, at least until after the events of "Hubris" (1x17), where they are forced to work with different groups of people.
Vex'ahlia held a lot of resentment for her father for a long time after he took her and her brother away from their mother so that they be raised in Syngorn, where she was constantly ridiculed. She once told him that if she could remove all of his blood from her veins, she would. However, Vex'ahlia later made an effort to make peace with Syldor, and began working with him after she became Whitestone's ambassador to Syngorn.
Vex'ahlia, along with her brother Vax'ildan, was on a quest to kill Thordak, the ancient red dragon that killed their mother when it destroyed their home town of Byroden. This has since been fulfilled due to Vax slaying Thordak during the siege of Emon.
Years ago, Vex'ahlia was stalked by someone and marked for death by the Clasp. Vax dealt with the Clasp but the client is still out there. She has expressed an interest in finding out who that was and why they wanted her.

As a ranger, Vex'ahlia often uses her magical capability to enhance her marksmanship and increase her arrows' attack damage. She is also capable of using Trinket in battle, even though she prefers not to put him in harm's way often. After watching and learning from her brother, she began to hone her skills as a rogue, becoming capable of deft maneuvers and dealing additional damage with a sneak attack. With her third rogue level, she took the archetype of the assassin just like her brother. After completing Pelor's trial and becoming his Champion, Vex'ahlia received the Blessing of the Dawnfather.

- Vex'ahlia has the lowest strength score and lowest constitution score of any main player character thus far.
- The lowest strength score of any character on Critical Role is Shakäste.
- Vex'ahlia has given offerings at more resurrection rituals than any other characters.
- In the Critical Role Major Arcana Tarot Card Set, she represents XVII - The Star.
- By aiding in the defeat Thordak, the Cinder King, Vex completed her personal mission to avenge her mother, Elaina's, murder.
- Throughout Campaign 1, several jokes have been made (largely by Scanlan) at Vex's expense towards her being a witch. Notable examples of these include:
- Fan art of Vex (done by artist Megzilla87) depicts Vex as riding her broomstick in a manner reminiscent of Samantha Stephens from the 1964 sitcom Bewitched.
- Similarly, in "A Cycle of Vengeance" (1x58), Scanlan gives Vex a pointed, wide-brimmed hat, which Sam Riegel made obvious was a witch's hat. Laura then furthered the joke by singing a few lines of Defying Gravity from the hit Broadway show Wicked (which, coincidently, is also about a witch).
- 56 episodes later, during the final battle with Vecna, the Ascended, while Vex is flying around on her broomstick (wearing her witch's hat) Scanlan casts a Minor Illusion cantrip on her to briefly turn her skin green, thus bringing the Wicked Witch of the West homage full circle.
- Vex became the first party member to die outside of combat in "The Sunken Tomb" (1x44) when the party found one of the Vestiges of the Divergence, the Deathwalker's Ward, and tried to liberate it. Vex tried to search for traps, but Percy ended up triggering one by accident that damaged and killed her. Fortunately, Kashaw, who was traveling with the group at the time, managed to initiate a risky Revivify ritual for her, which ended up bringing her back to life.
- Out of Vox Machina, Vex is tied with her brother for most deaths at four deaths each. However, as Vax'ildan was brought back by the Raven Queen following his second and third deaths, and did not return after his fourth death, Vex holds the record for most times being successfully resurrected. Vex has only been resurrected using the Revivify spell, and the spell has never failed. Because of this, for future attempts at resurrection, Vex has the highest difficulty class of any member of Vox Machina using Matt's Home Brew resurrection rules.
- Vex, like her brother, is bisexual. She has shown interest in Jarett Howarth, Zahra Hydris, and Percival de Rolo. She is said to have flirted with everyone they have come across pre-stream, a fact that was referenced when Vex refused to pretend to be Vax's wife for a ruse and Vax retorted that she "come[s] on to every human, orc, and half-elf in the entire kingdom."
- During "Dalen's Closet" (Sx47), it was established that the first born child of Vex and Percy is a girl named Vesper Elaina de Rolo.
- Vex'ahlia is included in the Critical Role Pack DLC for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.
- Vex'ahlia, with her broom and witch's hat, is the first Critical Role character to be released as a Funko Pop figurine. She is also the only character to have 2 Funko Pop figurines, while the rest of Vox Machina members only have one.
