History[]
Syldor Vessar and Elaina had a relationship for an unknown length of time, but Syldor eventually left her to return to Syngorn. Elaina later gave birth to half-elven twins and named them Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia.
The three of them lived happily together until Syldor learned of the twins' existence. When the twins were ten years old, Syldor had them brought to Syngorn to live with him, leaving their mother behind. While there, they underwent training to become assassins.[3] However, Syldor was distant and cold towards his children, which led to the twins running away one autumn night.[4][5]
Several years later, the twins returned to their mother in Byroden only to discover the entire village had been burnt to the ground by a dragon. They learned from the survivors that their mother had died during the attack. The twins wandered the continent together for some time as they honed their respective skills. Vax sharpened his skills and daggers as a rogue, whereas Vex honed her prowess as a ranger.

Eventually the twins formed an adventuring party, doing odd jobs within Tal'Dorei. When they were in Emon, they encountered their father, discovering he had married an elven woman named Devana and had a young daughter, Velora. However, Syldor's contact within the Tal'Dorei Council had gone missing, and he hired the party to find him so that he could get back to work.[6] When the party went searching for him, they discovered the tortured corpse of Sir Gregoryan and uncovered the plot of the attempted assassination of Sovereign Uriel. After this debacle, the party continued their journey across Exandria.
While Vox Machina were adventuring in the Underdark, Vax started developing feelings for Keyleth.[7] Vax eventually admitted his love for Keyleth and kissed her after they took down Professor Anders.[8] Keyleth, however, hesitated to explore her own love for the rogue due to uncertainty and fear.
Durring the Chroma Crisis the twins went looking for Vestiges of Divergence. They ventured into the ancient tomb of the Raven Queen's champion in search of his legendary Deathwalker's Ward. When they found it, they triggered a trap that instantly killed Vex'ahlia, who couldn't avoid it in time. Vax pulled his sister's body in close and angrily yelled at the form to take him instead.[9] Vex came back to life, but nothing seemed to happen to Vax'ildan. He didn't mention his deal with the Raven Queen to his sister.
After Vox Machina discovered the corpse of Tiberius Stormwind, Kyleth admitted her love for Vax, and that she had loved him for a long time.[10] The two since established a close relationship.

During the Crisis, Vox Machina met with Syldor in hopes to gaining access to Syngorn as part of their request for aid, and in their venture for Fenthras. He remained cold and somewhat disdainful towards the twins, although he granted them a meeting with the Syngorn High Warden. Their presence was a difficulty and an embarrassment to his family. The twins expressed their anger, and Syldor apologized for their upbringing and admitted his prejudice. He urged them not to care about his opinion, just to avenge their mother's death, to show their little sister that they could rise up and destroy whatever came in their way. He promised to send word to Whitestone when the city was ready to return to the Prime Material Plane to attack Thordak in Emon.
Going after Fenthras Vex'ahlia rejected the advances Saundor made on her, claiming that "her heart is someone else's", revealing she had genuine developed feelings for the Percy.
Vex'ahlia and Percy’s relationship grew into that of being lovers, even leading to their becoming intimate with each other for the first time prior to the siege of Emon.[11][12] Eventually they got married, the wedding ceremony was performed in secret by Keeper Yennen, with Zahra Hydris as a witness and Vex's de facto Maid of Honor. Vex and Percy kept their marriage a secret from everyone initially, though Taryon Darrington was eventually the first to find out. It was later revealed to Vox Machina that they were not only engaged but had actually taken the next step and secretly eloped together and were in fact now husband and wife.[13]
After Vecna's ascension, Vax was disintegrated by Vecna. He made another deal with The Raven Queen to allow him to return to life until Vecna had been destroyed.[14] After Vax was brought back as a revenant, Keyleth and Vax came to terms that their time together would end far sooner than they hoped. But Keyleth remarked that despite all the hardship that was thrown at them, she would never take it back as it was Vax who taught her to take chances, including falling in love.[15]
When the twins went to take down Vecna, the Ascended, Velora was kidnapped and put into a trance by Vecna, magically suspended within his ribcage as a living shield. and a taunt to her half-siblings. Though Velora was freed from the literal cage she was already dead. After the battle, Kashaw performed a resurrection ritual on Velora. Vex contributed her arrow with the owl-bear feather, Vax gave her Simon, his Serpent Belt, and Zahra loaned her moonstone. The ritual was a success and Velora returned to life, seemingly with no memory of her abduction, and happy to be with her brother and sister.
A victory speech was given to the townsfolk of Vasselheim by Keyleth, when Vax felt a cold pain in his chest. He said his goodbyes before disappearing in a puff of feathers.

Following Vax'ildan's death, Syldor and Vex'ahlia made an effort to have a closer relationship than before. Syldor would go on to do what he could with his political clout to try to make the future generations of elves in Syngorn more open and accepting of the other races of Exandria than he had been.[16]
Vex and Percy lived the rest of their lives in Whitestone with an occasional travel. Since the rest of Vox Machina had been unable to attend Vex and Percy's marriage ceremony due to their elopement, the two De Rolos decided to renew their vows in a more formal "destination wedding" at Dalen's Closet in Shammel on the Bay of Gifts. The pair had five children.

In 843 PD, during the Crisis of the Red Solstice, the Champion of Ravens that once was Vax'ildan was trapped by the Ruby Vanguard in the Malleus Key. Vex'ahlia, as part of the Exandrian Accord, summoned the Syngornian armies to help fight the Vanguard, and with their help and that of Vox Machina, she rescued her twin.[17]
