Vesper Elaina de Rolo[5] is the first child of Vex'ahlia and Percival de Rolo. She was born in the year between "The Search For Bob" (Sx45) and "Dalen's Closet" (Sx47), in 813 PD.
Description[]
Appearance[]
During "Dalen's Closet" (Sx47) in 813 PD, Vesper was an infant; she had been born that year.[6][7]
By 836 PD, Vesper was an adult woman, with white hair and slightly pointy ears.[4] In 843 PD her hair was very short, and now brown.[8]
Personality[]
Vesper is a responsible and dynamic woman who seems to enjoy her position as an older sister, and also worries about her parents' safety.
Biography[]
Background[]
Vesper was born to Percival and Vex'ahlia de Rolo, the Lord and Lady of Whitestone; Vex manifested symptoms of pregnancy just after the defeat of Vecna and the rescue of the soul of Grog Strongjaw from Pandemonium (implying the ranger had been with child during both adventures),[9] and the baby would be born in the following months, as the first of five siblings. If rumors are to be trusted, the spirit of Vax'ildan, Vesper's late uncle, was briefly seen by Vex'ahlia after the birth.[10]
"Dalen's Closet" (Sx47)[]
Vesper was present at her parents' wedding, but asleep throughout most of the events at the beach resort.
"The Assembling of Legends" (3x112)[]
After the apogee solstice of 843 PD Vesper's parents became allies of the Exandrian Accord and were preparing to aid them in their conflict against the Ruby Vanguard. One morning, when she was about to go hunting, she encountered Lord and Lady de Rolo with some of their friends, and became worried when she realized that her parents would go into battle themselves. Shortly after she was found by her youngest sister, Gwen, and she help her gather their siblings at the Sun Tree as their parents had requested, bringing them baked goods from the Slayer's Cake. Vesper showed some smugness when they confirmed that she was left in charge until Percival and Vex'ahlia's return, but when Vox Machina prepared to go through the portal that Keyleth had opened, the de Rolo siblings allowed themselves to openly show concern, and even shed a few tears.
Relationships[]
Percival and Vex'ahlia de Rolo[]
Her parents care very much for her. When taken by Sylas Briarwood, Vex'ahlia's first instinct was to ask about Vesper's whereabouts.[11]
Percy believes that she and her siblings are leaders, able to save people if necessary.[12]
As Vex was dying in battle without knowing if she would be brought back, one of her last thoughts was for Vesper, consoling herself with the idea that with her eldest daughter Whitestone would be safe.[13]

Trivia[]
- Vesper is named after her paternal aunt Vesper de Rolo and her maternal grandmother Elaina.
- Her first name means "evening" in Latin. Her middle name derives from the Ancient Greek term helénē, that can be translated as "torch", "bright" or "beautiful".
- Based on Vex's mention of her daughter's age[14] and the fact that her pregnancy was first hinted at the end of Misuthar 812 PD, that means that Vesper's birthday is in the last days of Quen'pillar, later in the same year, or at the beginning of the next year.
- Although Vex/Laura describes Vesper as being "almost 30", there is a chance it was a miscalculation, as a child born at the end of 812 PD would be 31 in 843 PD, or 30 if the pregnancy was particularly long and Vesper was born at the beginning of 813 PD, before her first appearance as a baby in "Dalen's Closet" (Sx47).[15]
- Jessica Scates, who illustrated the de Rolo family in Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, said that Vesper's white hair was part of her description, though she did not know the reason for the color.[16]
- Despite the fact that her hair was specifically described as white in the portrait, it was brown eleven years later. Matthew Mercer admitted that at first it was a mistake, but then noted that kids change their hair as part of their "journey of self".[17]
- A popular theory about Vesper's hair color was that, like Yasha Nydoorin and Reani, she is an aasimar. An explanation for this condition is that aasimars are beings with celestial blood or whose families have been touched by divine energy, and in the case of Vesper, her mother was in the presence of the Everlight while pregnant,[18] she was allegedly visited by the Champion of Ravens (now an angelic being) when she was born,[19] and depending on when she was conceived, her mother may have been blessed by the Dawnfather when she was already with child.[20] Dani Carr later confirmed Vesper is an aasimar in a comment on the Beacon Discord channel, as shown in this tweet, stating "yes Vesper is an aasimar".
- Traditionally Vesper would have been the heir of her father as ruler of their city, being his first-born. However, Percival established the Chamber of Whitestone as the new government, in which only one of the figures is intended to always be held by a de Rolo. The current Guardian of Woven Stone is Cassandra de Rolo, Vesper's aunt and Lord Percival's youngest sister. Since Vesper has been very reliable, it is expected that one day she will take her aunt's place.[21]
- Vesper, Skyhaal of the Rivermaw Herd,[22] and Zahra's unnamed first child[23] are the only three known cases where their respective mothers went on adventures and engaged in dangerous battles while pregnant with them. In Vesper's case, Vex'ahlia even traveled between planes.
- Percy might have made her a pop gun when she was young.[24]
- She finds Cerkonos attractive.[25]
- Of all her siblings, Vesper is the one with the greatest age difference with the rest, being around a decade older than the twins.
