Uvenda, the Heart of the Tides is the gnomish headmaster of the Water Ashari. As an NPC, Uvenda is played by Matthew Mercer.
Description[]
Uvenda is a very tiny gnome woman, old and shriveled. She has a few remaining wisps of white and gray hair on her wide, oval-like head. Her skin has an olive-yellow tint and is very wrinkled and pruny. Her eyes are like tiny little black beads. Uvenda carries a long staff that is twice her height.[3]
Biography[]
Background[]
Campaign One: Vox Machina[]
Uvenda was the leader of the Water Ashari when Vilya of the Air Ashari traveled to the Elemental Plane of Water as part of her Aramenté between 806 and 807 PD,[4] which ended tragically for the half-elf and her five companions.[5]
In 811 PD Uvenda received Vilya's daughter, Keyleth, when she arrived with her friends to complete the Aramenté herself, receiving a task similar to that of her predecessor: retrieve three lodestones without killing Ulugrah.[6] After they succeeded (with great difficulty), the Heart of the Tides admited to Vox Machina that the Aramenté shouldn't be that lethal, pointing to the kraken as the culprit in such situations.[7]
The Chronicles of Exandria - The Legend of Vox Machina Volume II[]
At some point between Keyleth's Aramenté and 911 PD Uvenda stepped down as Heart of the Tides and became instead a tale-teller for the Water Ashari. In one of their multiple visits to Vesrah, the elder gnome told researchers of the Cobalt Soul that Ulugrah the Requisite had eventually learned that those mortals it had fought were in fact legendary heroes, and since the kraken had survived the encounter, it counted it as a victory, gleefully boasting of it to anyone who visited its lair. While the Cobalt researchers were interested in the information given by Uvenda from Vesrah, none dared to check to what extent it was true.[2]
The Legend of Vox Machina[]
Uvenda appeared briefly as the headmaster of the Water Ashari when Keyleth approached the council demanding access to their knowledge of a ritual that would potentially allow her to locate Raishan. Uvenda disapproved of teaching her this ritual.[8]

Quotations[]
Trivia[]
- Matthew Mercer described Uvenda as "a weird female Water Ashari Yoda".[9]
- Since she was already an old lady in 811 PD, the fact that she's still alive one century later is surely due to the prolongation of longevity caused by going through her Aramenté.
- Being a high ranking member of the Ashari, she's most likely a druid. If that's the case, combining her natural gnomish longevity and Timeless Body alone, Uvenda would be able to live for up to about 5000 years.
