History[]
The Calamity[]
On the eve of the Calamity, a bridled unicorn was in the vault of the Golden Scythe of Avalir.[5]

In the final days of the Calamity, a vast herd of unicorns soundly defeated an army of thousands of devils in the valley that would become the Mornset Countryside.[6] Among them was Lumia, a servant of the Arch Heart, and elves carrying the symbol of the Arch Heart fought alongside the unicorns. Griffons descended to help complete the rout, and the remaining devils retreated to the Nine Hells. Lumia was sad to know their deity would soon be leaving the Material Plane. After their victory, the herd of unicorns proceeded south.[7]
In the years following the Divergence a unicorn decided to become Nia's companion, since she had been an invaluable help for those wielding divine magic in Exandria.[8]
Era of Reclamation[]

After the Calamity shifted a number of ley lines so that the Verdant Expanse became saturated with magic, unicorns were among the magical creatures that flocked to the lush region.[9]
Around 839 PD, Caleb Widogast found a little girl in the Menagerie Coast crying because some bullies had broken her unicorn figurine. He comforted her and used True Polymorph to transform what remained of the figurine into an actual unicorn that left with the girl, apparently with the mission of protecting her.[10]
