Umudara, the Sentinel Beast, is one of the Great Beasts of Veluthil, the protector spirits of the Veluthil Forest in the time of Molaesmyr, before the forest became corrupted into the Savalirwood.
Description[]
Appearance[]

Umudara looked like a 8-9 feet tall bull with long horns (each 6-7 feet long). Despite his dense and strong physique, he possessed some form of etherealness, becoming completely solid only when he attacked, and his body was like water when touched; inside of it, his heart was visible, like a distant star, and his eyes were like two red suns, whose light glowed or faded responding to Umudara's emotions.[2]
History[]
At some point during or after the fall of Molaesmyr in 585 PD, Umudara was petrified and was not aware of the extent of the corruption that created the Savalirwood. After the elven survivors joined the dwarves of Uthodurn, the Sentinel Beast, now seemingly just a statue, was eventually found by explorers, recovered, and displayed in the throne room of the dual monarchs in the Grandcast Citadel, in order to protect the entity that once had protected Molaesmyr,[3] and also use the statue as a symbol of remembrance for the fallen city.[4]
During the apogee solstice of 843 PD, Uthodurn was affected by a series of magical disturbances that altered or dispelled different spells and enchantments. This caused Umudara to wake up, and alarmed by the sudden appearance of the creature, the royal guard and the Glassblades attacked. The Great Beast of Veluthil, confused and scared, responded to the attacks, which led to the evacuation of the Grand Disk.[5]

Umudara killed or wounded several people, but eventually was confronted by those members of Bells Hells who were transported to Wildemount in the magical explosion of energy following activation of the Malleus Key during the Solstice, along with F.R.I.D.A. and Deanna Leimert. They had insisted on entering the locked area. While initially they were willing to battle the beast, after Imogen Temult revealed his confused feelings the party decided to calm him down instead. Fearne Calloway made sure Umudara wouldn't attack them while Fresh Cut Grass gave him the ability to communicate with them, thus allowing the celestial entity to reveal his identity.[6] After Chetney deduced the bull's home was now the Savalirwood, the adventurers convinced Umudara to let them guide him outside of Uthodurn, and they did so (making sure the soldiers wouldn't attack the beast on their way).[7]
When they reached the surface Umudara stated that he wasn't able to feel the Veluthil Forest, but his new friends showed him the direction he had to follow to find it. After Fearne tied a ribbon in the bull's horn as a parting gift, the Sentinel Beast left.[8] He eventually found his way back to the Savalirwood where he became another source of healing for the cursed forest.[9]
