Tz'Jarr is a male hobgoblin and the Iron Emperor of the Iron Authority, a hobgoblin empire in the Rifenmist Peninsula of Tal'Dorei.
Tz'Jarr was first mentioned in the original Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting. So far, he has not appeared nor been mentioned onstream.
History[]
After the Calamity stranded many goblinkin on the Beynsfal Plateau, various hobgoblin kingdoms arose and asserted their authority over the squabbling goblin tribes of the Rifenmist Peninsula, and had launched grand military campaigns with the goal of becoming as large and powerful as possible, only to inevitably collapse due to internal mistrust and greed. But in 722 PD, the Iron Tide began:[1] a platoon of hobgoblins devoted itself fully to Bane and press-ganged as many of their kin as they could into an army of conquest. This Iron Regiment began swallowing the other kingdoms and expanding its territory, and it did not stop growing for the next decade, until it had united the Beynsfal Plateau, declaring itself the Iron Authority under the authority of the Iron Emperor.[4] Around 802 PD the Iron Authority turned its attention to the Rifenmist Jungle, where it was subsequently locked in a decades-long war to subjugate the jungle's native Orroyen tribes.[5][6]
As Iron Emperor, Tz'Jarr was and is the supreme military commander of the empire. He directly rules the capital Tz'Arrm, and the other four major city-states of the Iron Authority—Ezordam-Haar, Hdar-Fye, Ortem-Vellak, and Rybad-Kol—are ruled by four royal generals who serve him loyally.[7]
Tz'Jarr had a son, Zuun'dak, who was his sole heir, was nearly of age, and was being groomed to be a great general.[3][8]
Tz'Jarr is far older than a typical hobgoblin's lifespan. It is rumored that his clerics use blood magic to extend his life.[2]
Relationships[]
Zuun'dak[]
Zuun'dak was Tz'Jarr's son and the only heir to the Iron Authority throne. Despite being groomed to become a great general, Zuun'dak felt trepidation regarding the brutality of the empire, feelings that turned to a longing for escape after being briefly captured by the Orroyen. The adventure hook The Wayward Bloodline, which can be set in either 812 or 836 PD, involves stumbling upon a disguised and fleeing Zuun'dak and deciding what to do with him.[3][9]
