Background[]
Tyffial was born in Nogvurot, in the Dwendalian Empire.
At some point before 829 PD she met Briyakar Jurrell (an elf who moved to Nogvurot from Yardel and who would eventually become her lover), and they got involved with the Righteous Brand, but later left (partially because Jurrell was wanted by imperial decree)[9] and joined the Claret Orders,[10] training in the Oltu Ruins for some time and learning the secrets of hemocraft; both elves became close with Zoran Kluthidol, and they were not happy with how the order worked.[11]
Eventually they left, and by 831 PD they lived in Shadycreek Run, in a house that had belonged to Auntie Mama until she was executed by the Jagentoth family, and where the three of them were found by other former members of the Order, Lucien Tavelle, Cree Deeproots, Otis Brunkel and Brevyn Oakbender (the legal heir of the house).[12] The entire group recovered Auntie Mama's remains from where the Jagentoths kept those who betrayed them,[13] becoming the Tombtakers,[14] and although they lived for a while in Brevyn's house,[15] with Tyffial, Lucien and Cree searching for some relics from Molaesmyr for a collector in South Clover that wanted to decorate his brothel,[16] eventually the Jagentoth family tried to attack them, stopping only because Vess DeRogna appeared and bargained for their lives, so she could hire the Tombtakers herself.[17] One of their missions was in Molaesmyr, were they fought hags and reached the tower of Caes Mosor.[18][19]
The Tombtakers eventually accompanied the archmage in an expedition to Aeor, but the mission ended in tragedy when Brevyn died recovering a journal for Lucien.[20][21] The group, after the archmage's payment (which would end up disappearing), traveled to Yardel, Jurrell's hometown, and in that time Lucien, who had been reading the journal, gained new knowledge and power from the Somnovem.[22][23] That knowledge was shared with his friends and they decided to use that power to shape the world according to their wishes and make it a better place for them; Tyffial seemed to like Jurrell's plans about becoming a living jewel and making Yardel prosperous.[24]
In 833 PD the Tombtakers reached out to Vess DeRogna,[25] and she came to oversee and perform a ritual that would allow Lucien to reach the Somnovem.[26] However, the archmage sabotaged the ritual and killed Lucien.[27][28][29] The group waited until dawn, and their leader had told them that if anything were to go wrong, they had to get rid of any sign, any trace, so, not far from their hideout, they buried him and went their separate ways, to different points of the Dwendalian Empire.[30] Tyffial and Jurrell were separated in unknown circumstances, and for a time the former ran a card den with Otis in Nogvurot until they had problems with the law;[31] Tyffial would later return work as a bodyguard in the same city at least until 835 PD.[32] Meanwhile, Jurrell was arrested and executed at some point before PD 835;[33][34] her girlfriend inherited her biggest treasure: a stolen royal jewel that once belonged to Queen Duvia Dwendal.[35]
In 836 PD, when a resurrected Lucien wanted to sell Jurrell's jewel Tyffial refused, and only let her beloved's memory go after the Nonagon forced her to do it with his powers, and then erased her memories about the argument and the jewel itself.[36]
"Under Timeless Ice" (2x116)[]
Tyffial was present when the Mighty Nein first came face to face with the Tombtakers in an Aeorian ruin.
"Hunter and Hunted" (2x133)[]
Due to a trap set by the Mighty Nein, Tyffial fell off a high place and was knocked unconscious, as did her compatriots Otis and Zoran. She was decapitated by an unspecified member of the group, and her head was taken by Caduceus Clay.
"The Streets of the Forgotten" (2x134)[]
Caduceus cast Speak with Dead on the severed head of Tyffial while disguising himself as Cree. Tyffial told him that the Tombtakers had previously taken the road outside to reach their destination, and it took them about a day. When asked about the eyes, the head began laughing and Caduceus Decomposed it.
"Hell or High Water" (2x136)[]
Before Lucien and Cree crossed through the Immensus Gate to reach the Astral Plane, the echo in the tiefling's mind used the memory of Tyffial and the rest of the ambushed Tombtakers to make the Nonagon feel guilty, albeit to little avail.[37]
Relationships[]
Briyakar Jurrell[]
Both had great love for each other, and were often seen holding hands, or sharing affectionate gestures, although they would sometimes feign innocence or modesty in front of their friends after spending some time alone together.
After losing Jurrell Tyffial became very fierce about her memory, and the loss made her more susceptible to following the Nonagon and his cause. Her final goal was to resurrect her using the power the Somnovem offered.

Trivia[]
- She had a high, reedy voice.[44]
- She played the lute.[45]
- Matt indicated in his notes for "Harvest Close" (2x17)[1] that Tyffial might have been able to help Molly remember the life of Lucien.
- Interestingly, they almost met in Nogvurot at some point between 834 and the first half of 835 PD, when Molly and The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities arrived to the city to scam the lawmaster that was stealing from the people there.[46] Since such encounter never happened it is assumed that it happened while Tyffial was away, after having problems with the law,[47] and before her eventual return.[48]
- Matt referred to Tyffial as human at least once by mistake.[49]
- Annotations by Zeenoth in The Chronicles of Exandria - The Mighty Nein have Tyffial's name censored on a list of Tombtakers recorded by Beauregard.[50]
