This article is about the child singer from the Wildemount campaign. For the blood hunter from the Vox Machina campaign, see Tova.

Toya is a dwarven child who works for The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities. As an NPC, Toya is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Toya is a small, dwarven girl with braided golden hair. During her performance with the Carnival, she wore a long white dress.

Personality[]

Biography[]

Background[]

Toya claimed to have joined the Carnival after Gustav found her singing in the streets of a city "far north of the Marrow Valley", two years prior to meeting the party in "A Show of Scrutiny" (2x02).[5]

"Curious Beginnings" (2x01)[]

Toya sings during the carnival show in Trostenwald, accompanied by Kylre. While she is singing, a man in the audience turns into an undead and a fight ensues. Toya looks scared when this happens, and Kylre carries her out of the tent.

"A Show of Scrutiny" (2x02)[]

After the fight, it was Beau's first instinct to go find Toya, but she was stopped and arrested by Crownsguard on her way to her.

While exploring the circus camp at night, Jester and Nott found Toya sleeping in Kylre's arms. They questioned her about the people in the circus, and Toya mentioned that Gustav and Ornna fought a lot, leading Jester and Nott to suspect Ornna. During this conversation it became apparent that her speaking voice is very hoarse; the party thought this was because she sings so much, but it might also be because Kylre was draining life force out of her.

Later during that same night, the group saw a giant shadow leaping through the air, away from the circus camp. This was later revealed to be Kylre holding Toya.

"The Midnight Chase" (2x03)[]

The party found Kylre and Toya on an island in the Ustaloch, inside the collapsed house of an old witch. Kylre told Toya to start singing, which had a damaging effect on the party. Beau pushed her down onto the ground, but she only stopped singing when Beau knocked her out.

"Disparate Pieces" (2x04)[]

Toya was still unconscious after the fight. Beau wanted to try to wake her up, but Molly convinced her that that's not a good idea, since she was the one who knocked her out. Molly then woke her up, and explained to her that Kylre was not who she thought he was. When they arrived back in Trostenwald, Molly snuck her back into the circus camp.

Toya was present later in The Nestled Nook Inn, when the party was having a drink with the carnival folk. Toya asked if the family was going to fall apart, but Ornna and Bosun said that they'd stay together with Toya. When they were about to leave, Beau gifted her one of her jade bangles. Toya said she understands why Beau did what she did, but that she would get back at her one day.

"Rebirth" (2x139)[]

While confronting Lucien, Jester sings the song Toya sang in the circus almost a year prior.

Relationships[]

Kylre[]

Toya was very friendly with Kylre, going so far as to sleep in his arms.

Mollymauk joined the circus after Toya, and she was the first to meet him when he wandered through the forest; she later voted for the tiefling to stay at the carnival, since she liked him, and danced with him once he joined them.[6] Together, she and Molly formed a bond by finding their voices and learning how to have fun again.[7]
