Tortles are a rarely-seen race of turtle-like humanoids native to the Menagerie Coast.[2] In the Shattered Teeth tortles are known as galapas.[3]
Appearance[]
Tortles resemble oversized bipedal turtles. They stand between 5 and 6 feet tall and weigh in excess of 450 pounds, a third of which is their shell alone. Their scaly skin ranges in mottled shades of green and brown.
Society[]
Tortles are almost entirely unheard of outside of the Menagerie Coast, with many folks living in the Dwendalian Empire and Xhorhas believing their existence to be a hoax.[2] Many tortles live a migratory existence, never settling down in one place for too long. Despite this, few travel outside of the Coast, feeling pangs of homesickness if gone for too long.[2]
Powers and abilities[]
A tortle's most prominent asset is their tough shell, which is comparable to a set of well-forged splint armor. In times of danger, a tortle can retreat into their shell, granting themselves even greater defense. A tortle's long claws are also capable natural weapons, should they ever be disarmed. Despite not being natural swimmers, a tortle is also capable of holding their breath for up to an hour at a time.
