History[]
The Torn Banner was a band of mercenaries created in the aftermath of the War of Axe and Vine. Their uprising against the Sundered Houses is referenced as the Falconer's Rebellion.[13] During a battle, they used Baladri as auxiliaries and faced forces under the command of House Cormoray.[14]
After the battle of Maharlian Falls and Thjazi's arrest, the Torn Banner was forced to disband.[15]
Twelve years later,[16] some of their members continued participating in mercenary or military activities. During all those years, Loza had carried the literal "torn banner", and in "Broken Wing" (4x02) she gave it to Teor as a passing of the torch.[17]
Trivia[]
- The Torn Banner's rallying cry might have been: "Can you hear the falcon's cry?"[18][19][20]
- Their anthem is a song called Broken Wing, whose meaning changed since the moment it was composed, as the war and its implications progressed.[21]
- Lilli Furfaro, a critter who is also a musician, composed and recorded a song in honor of this one.[22]
- A member of the group is called a "Bannersman".[23]
- The Torn Banner saved Dame Winifred Cosgrove's life during the rebellion, when she was only 17 years old.[24]
