"To the Ends of the World" (LVM3x10) is the tenth episode of The Legend of Vox Machina, Season Three. Thordak has fallen - though the price paid was steep. In the aftermath, Raishan absconds with Thordak's corpse. Vox Machina doesn't know her plan, but it can't be good. Fractured, they scatter on their own personal quests: vengeance, solace, and knowledge.
Plot summary[]
As Raishan disappears with Thordak's corpse, Keyleth is angry, blaming the rest of Vox Machina for not believing her repeated warnings not to trust Raishan. She changes into an eagle and flies away, telling them not to follow.
Later, at the ruined Greyskull Keep, Vex'ahlia tells Vax'ildan that before Vox Machina, there were just the two of them, and they never left business unfinished. She wants to go after Ripley, and Vax agrees to join her. Meanwhile, upstairs, Pike and Grog are keeping watch over the still-unconscious Scanlan, and Grog suggests maybe he doesn't want to wake up. Pike gets an idea and goes to talk to Allura, telling Grog not to move till she gets back. Grog takes this literally. Later, Dr. Dranzel is alone in his inn room when Allura and Pike poof in to find Kaylie's location. Pike then tells Kaylie that Scanlan genuinely cares about her, and shows her the song Scanlan wrote for her. She tells Kaylie she might be able to make him want to live.
Meanwhile, Keyleth joins her father Korrin in Zephrah, telling him she must find Raishan. He shares that the Earth Ashari have knowledge of an extremely dangerous secret ritual to locate someone, but they will not share it without permission from the Council. A Council of the Ashari is therefore gathered, and Keyleth tells them of Raishan's betrayal. She asks for the ritual, but is told she is not ready. Besides, Raishan will die soon from the disease the Ashari cursed her with. The Council refuses her request.
Vax and Vex are in Stilben, a shady, corrupt, and run-down port town. Vex notices a katari carrying a pepperbox and Vax follows him, getting ambushed when the katari discovers him. However, they are both members of the Clasp and reach an understanding. The katari tells them of a ship making its way up and down the Lucidian coast delivering firearms that docks occasionally in Stilben. The twins decide to wait for it. Eventually, Vax leaves to see if he can pick up any info in town, telling Vex to stay put. Vex then spots a ship docking and approaches stealthily, but is discovered.
Back in Zephrah, Keyleth remembers her mother, and she returns to the adjourning council and insists they listen to her. She transforms into a fire elemental to demonstrate her abilities, and Pa'tice (head of the Earth Ashari) agrees that their duty to Exandria requires they aid her. She will teach her the ritual, although Uvenda (head of the Water Ashari) still disapproves. Pa'tice leads Keyleth to a nexus of intersecting ley lines surrounded by petrified people who failed the ritual, and tells Keyleth to become part of the earth and follow the thread of enmity between herself and Raishan. However, Keyleth feels herself being sucked in and has to be pulled free, failing to locate the dragon.
The captured and bound Vex'ahlia is being interrogated by the ship's crew when Vax'ildan arrives, and in the ensuing fracas she is knocked into the sea, pulled down by an anchor tied to her feet. Vax reaches her in time but the ship has been alerted and begins departing. The twins fight the crew but the ship is gone.
Keyleth tries the ritual again and succeeds, seeing visions of both peace and horror before centering on a sailing ship being pursued by Vex on her broom and a winged Vax. The twins land aboard stealthily, but as they explore they are welcomed aboard by Anna Ripley and find themselves surrounded at gunpoint by her crew.
