Tinyn is a half-orc miner who once lived in Jorenn Village, and a member of the group led by Thorn.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Tinyn is a tall half-orc woman who wore glasses.[10]
Personality[]
Vax'ildan noted that Tinyn was more level-headed than Thorn, when it came to leadership. She was notably emotionally closed-off, suspicious of outsiders, and had a dry sense of humor.[7]
Biography[]
Background[]
Tinyn lived in Jorenn Village prior to the conflict between the Shadewatch and the miners.[4] Like the other miners, she presumably inscribed her name in a boulder on her first day in the mines.[11] She and Anissa were best friends, and they discovered a new drift of silver together. Anissa pushed the miners to dig deeper, and they discovered an ancient drift and a miners' grave, where they excavated raw silver and "gems the color of thunderstorms."[12] When the miners removed the gems, the corpses in the mass grave began to rise and became ash walkers. They attempted to block off the tunnels and return the gems, but it didn't stop the dead from rising and attacking Jorenn Village at night. Many died during the better part of a year that followed, and those that died would also rise as ash walkers. The attacks were only slowed when Shademaster Derowen obtained the magical ring Fracture, which allowed her to control the ash walkers. Rather than just turn them away, she used the ring to also take control of the mines, and blamed the miners for the death and destruction the ash walkers caused.[13]
In about 805 PD,[14][15] the miners retreated into their mines, with nowhere else to go to escape Derowen's ire.[16] They spent some time in the hills but chose the mines as their base, because Tinyn's partner Faril was afraid of ghosts.[15] After being chased from their homes, the miners continued to mine silver, hoping to be able to pay their way out of the situation.[17] Derowen and the Shadewatch continued to hunt them down. At some point, Anissa was killed by Derowen. Thorn took up leadership of the group, with Tinyn as his second-in-command.[18] Part of Tinyn's job was contacting other mining communities to try and find a new home for the group.[19]
Kith & Kin[]
Around 807 PD,[14] Tinyn was living among the outlaw miners. When Vax'ildan first shared a meal with them, he saw Tinyn reading by the light of a driftglobe, and saw Faril greet her with a kiss on the nose.[20] That evening, after the group retreated further into the mines, Tinyn and Faril briefly spoke to Thorn.[21]
A few days later, Tinyn spent a morning in the mines and the afternoon reading. Vax'ildan approached her to try and learn more about the conflict and the miners' intentions. She was suspicious of him and laughed at his blatant attempt to get her to divulge information.[7] According to Thorn, Tinyn thought Vax'ildan might be a spy sent by Derowen.[22]
The following evening, a group of Shadewatch scouts discovered the mines. After the fight, Thorn sent the other miners to tell Tinyn what had happened.[23] Tinyn was restless and carried her scimitars, and had a "quiet but heated discussion" with Sencha and Junel when Vax'ildan returned to the main cavern. He also saw Thorn give a pouch of something to Tinyn.[24]
Four days later, the Shadewatch returned, and the miners prepared for the confrontation.[25] Tinyn still did not trust Vax'ildan, and warned him against endangering the others. She gathered her scimitars and said goodbye to Faril, who would be leaving with Junel and the other noncombatants. Tinyn led the first group of combatants, and Thorn led the second.[5] During the battle, Vax'ildan saw Tinyn fighting with three Shadewatch guards at once.[26] Vex'ahlia saw Tinyn fighting two guards at once (possibly the same group), including Nari, and saw one dead, presumably killed by Tinyn. A dwarven woman wounded Tinyn's leg, and Nari stabbed Tinyn in the neck with his sword. Tinyn retaliated by running him through the heart with her scimitar;[27] Nari was later listed among the dead. Tinyn died in the battle, presumably from the wound to her neck, along with her comrades Felric, Whit, Lenda, and others whose names Vax'ildan did not know.[8] Faril kept Tinyn's book and glasses, which were too large for him.[28]
Relationships[]
Anissa[]
Anissa was Tinyn's best friend, and they discovered a new drift of silver together, which ultimately led to the conflict between the miners and the Shadewatch.[12] After Anissa's death, Tinyn became second-in-command to her brother, Thorn.[2]
Faril[]
Faril was Tinyn's partner.[5] Faril was deeply affected by Tinyn's death; in the few days that followed, he refused to eat and spoke flatly. He kept Tinyn's book, and wore her glasses on a chain around his neck.[29]
Thorn[]
Tinyn was Thorn's second-in-command, and she looked to him for leadership.[7] She shared her suspicion towards Vax'ildan with Thorn, and even when Thorn grew to trust the outsider, Tinyn did not.[30] Thorn was affected by her death and seemed to have some degree of survivor's guilt over it.[31]
Character information[]
Abilities[]
Tinyn was a capable fighter with her scimitars, able to take down two Shadewatch guards while she was outnumbered three to one. She did, however, lose her life in that battle.[27] Tinyn possibly had some abilities of a barbarian, as she was noted to fight with rage and ruthlessly.[32]
