The Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000 is a prototype crossbow invented by Cleff Tinkertop[2] of the city of Hupperdook. It was given to Nott as a reward for the Mighty Nein's aid in defeating the Gear Warden[3].

The Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000 is a hand-cranked crossbow and is a combination of gnomish clockwork and some unknown magic. It has a number of functions, and given the history of its creator, Cleff Tinkertop, and the weapon's prototypical nature, it has the possibility for catastrophic failure.

The Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000 is a +1 crossbow, with:

  • +1 to attack and damage rolls.
  • On a natural 20, immediately fires a second bolt.[4] If this bolt also scores a natural 20, it doesn't fire a third bolt.[5]
  • On a natural 1, the blaster misfires a bolt in the direction of the user, dealing 1d6 piercing damage.

The Mighty Nein first came across the Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000 when Rissa Tinkertop brought the group to meet her father at his shop, Tinkertop Inventions. Mollymauk Tealeaf asked the elderly gnome what invention he was most proud of, and Cleff responded by bringing out the Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000[6]. He told them that it would cost them 2000 gold pieces.

The Mighty Nein offered to defeat the Gear Warden, an automaton that Cleff had constructed for the Gearhole Prison which had since gone haywire, in exchange for the Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000 free of charge.

  • Nott's first natural 20 with this weapon was against Beau, as a way to force Caduceus to demonstrate his healing magic.
  • According to the blueprints featured in the deluxe edition of Chronicles of Exandria: Mighty Nein, the Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 100 has two petrified sprite lizards as the power source for the bolts' enchantments.
