Publisher's summary[]
Plot summary[]
Artagan asks Jester if he can stay with her for a few nights or millennia, and after she inquires a bit, he tells them about his trial and how they are presenting his past acts to make sure he will end up locked inside the bespelled gem. She makes him stand up and explains that she and Fjord have been able to form a life together because they have faced their unfinished business and resolved their problems; she continues by saying that she knows that Artagan is capable of running away forever, but that she knows him and knows that deep down he is a good person. The Traveler and his cleric magically appear back at the trial in the Feywild, surprising everyone, and Jester declares herself the archfey's defense, being unexpectedly supported by Keyleth. After some hesitation, Elmenore and Sammanar accept, declaring that this will be the last chance they give Artagan.
Keyleth and Jester explain how Artagan helped Vox Machina in the Fey Realm giving them time to fight the Whispered One, and how he made efforts to undo his own cult and redirect his followers to the Moonweaver. After the Traveler declares that he is a changed man, the judges and jury deliberate for a bit. When they come back, Sammanar sentences that Artagan deserves to be exactly what he claims to be: a changed man. The moment the gavel hits, the accused is transported to Zephrah, in Tal'Dorei. Finding himself free, Artagan tries to summon fireworks to celebrate, and discovers that he is incapable, concluding that he has been transformed into an ordinary, powerless mortal.
