Synopsis[]

At dusk in the Lavish Chateau, Marion Lavorre sits at her dressing table applying her make-up. Hearing rustling from inside her closet, she encourages Luc Brenatto into the open and gently advises him to knock while exploring the Chateau. He compliments Marion as almost as pretty as his mother Veth, flattering Marion. He adds that Veth is also brave.

When Marion asked if he is exploring the Chateau because he wants to join Veth's adventures, he hesitates. He worries Veth will not return home and is not reassured when Marion points out he described Veth as brave: not all brave people return home. Marion reminds Luc that Veth once saved both him and his father Yeza and returned afterward. Luc recounts the terrible events that happened while Veth was missing: her absence saddened Yeza, Luc was told his mother died, Vess DeRogna watched him and his father closely, and Kryn Dynasty soldiers burned Felderwin.

Marion reminds him that he and his father are safe now and that he can possess bravery even when afraid. Luc admits that he was scared of Veth when she returned because he worried she was a trick by Vess. Marion reassures him that caution is wise, he is certain now his mother is alive, and his mother's companions in the Mighty Nein are heroes. Among them is her daughter Jester, of whom she is proud, and she is comforted knowing Jester has strong and brave companions on her frightening adventures. Luc asks if the Nein will be alright because they are together. Marion kisses Luc on the forehead and confirms the Nein will keep one another safe so that they can return home to her and Luc.
