The first season of The Mighty Nein began airing on Prime Video on 19 November 2025. Set two decades after The Legend of Vox Machina, it follows a ragtag group of seven outcasts, criminals, and misfits as they stumble into saving the continent by stopping a powerful arcane threat known as "The Beacon" from unraveling reality when it falls into the wrong hands.
Production[]
The main cast of Critical Role reprise their roles as their player characters, and dungeon master Matthew Mercer reprises his role as multiple non-player characters. A number of guest stars will also lend their voices to the production, appearing in many of the non-player character roles from the second campaign of Critical Role.
In contrast to the adaptation of Campaign One: Vox Machina, the animated The Legend of Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein runs about 44 minutes per episode. It released its first three episodes on 19 November 2025 (after a sneak preview limited time release of the first episode on YouTube on 14 November), and at weekly intervals thereafter, with the final episode showing two days early on Monday 22 December 2025.[3]
Background[]
"The Mighty Nein follows a group of fugitives and outcasts, bound by secrets and scars. But when a powerful arcane relic known as "The Beacon" falls into dangerous hands, they must learn to work together to save the realm and stop reality itself from unraveling."[4]
The Mighty Nein adapts the second campaign of Critical Role with the first season following the early career of the adventuring party the Mighty Nein. The cast has emphasized that there will be changes from the story as told in the second campaign, as well as a slower pace than in The Legend of Vox Machina which is permitted by The Mighty Nein's longer episode length, and that among other threads it will explore the political tensions between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty in the lead-up to the War of Ash and Light.[5]
