Thaisha Lloy (pronounced TIE-sha /`taɪʃə/) is an orc druid played by Aabria Iyengar in Campaign Four.
Description[]
Official art of Thaisha Lloy, by Loren Hontanilla.[art 2]
Appearance[]
Thaisha is 6'4" tall and appears to be in her mid-to-late 30s due to her aging being slower than normal, with desaturated green skin and long, curly, dark (but graying) hair. Her eyes are completely black with red-ringed silver irises, the tips of her fingers are red and black, and she wears fine clothing with those same colors, associated with her family.[3]
Personality[]
She is honest, fierce, and ferociously protective and maternal toward those she considers family. She is also very proud of her status as a Lloy.[15] She hopes "that she can heal the lands that were damaged by the death of the Shapers, and in so doing, lead the world and the people who still miss the weight and heft of divinity to realize that that's always existed within the world and within themselves." When she returns home, she's always surprised "by how much her family has changed without her, and feels the disconnect between her mission and the thing she gave up to pursue it."[16]
Biography[]
Background[]
Thaisha was born as the scion of the Lloys of Dol-Makjar. She and Halandil Fang fell in love when they were about 19 years old and formed a family, although they never married, but Hal's art awakened a love of the world in Thaisha, who abandoned her family to become a druid.[17]
She met Occtis Tachonis as part of a mission in Venatus, in which she had to find something for Thjazi Fang; the druid and the wizard were together for a month, and in that time the two of them became close.[18] He met her son Al at least once.[19]
"The Fall of Thjazi Fang" (4x01)[]
After it was decided that Thjazi Fang would be executed, several of his old allies and friends devised a plan to free him and allow him to leave the city of Dol-Makjar unnoticed. Thaisha and Occtis (who had recently returned to the city) were part of the final phase of the plan, granting safe passage to the caravan that was supposed to transport Thjazi out of the city (since a druid of the Old Path and a member of a Sundered House would be seen as trustworthy);[20] however, the man condemned to death never made it out of the city, and was hanged without a chance to escape. When Thaisha and Occtis learned about it, and about the Farramh at Halandil's house, they went there, while talking about what could have gone wrong with the plan. When they arrived, Thaisha immeditately hugged Hal very tight, and used her nature magic to enrich the plant life of the area surrounding them from a year. She also introduced Occtis to her family, and confirmed to Shadia that the necromancer wasn't a follower of the Old Path (referring to the undead fox, Pin, that he had brought with him). Using her new connection with the plants in the area Thaisha used them to signal relevant moments of the funeral, making the jasmines bloom when Azune Nayar arrived, bringing Thjazi's body. When the druid noticed that Loza Blade had started the rites of the Old Path using a mix of Orcish and Druidic, she joined her in Druidic in a more formal style; that allowed the older woman to talk normally and remember moments of Thjazi's life, like his romance with Lady Aranessa Royce, worded in a way that made Thaisha laugh.
When Wicander Halovar and Tyranny arrived to the house, Thaisha stopped the rites for a bit to watch them, being very angry when the priest of the Candescent Creed started spitting the drink his Aspirant had brought him; however, Tyranny ended up bonding with the druid over their mutual dislike of Wicander, and they got drunk together. Thaisha ended up sharing most of her love story with Hal with the demon, while petting her surprisingly soft ears, but they ended up returning to where the corpse was, so the druid could resume the rites, even half-asleep. Later, when Bolaire Lathalia arrived, Thaisha decided to summon Hala to continue the rites for her while she greeted the newly arrived; she also asked Hal if he had seen Occtis, but he had left when neither of them was looking. When Halandil's other daughter, Hero, arrived with her mother, Elodie, Thaisha used Druidcraft to get sober instantly and talk to them. When Thjazi's widow, Aranessa, arrived with her friend and protector, Sir Julien Davinos, arrived as well, Thaisha noticed through the plants, and showed her liking for the lady and her disliking for the warrior by making the vegetation become greener near the former and more withered near the latter. When she noticed that Lady Aranessa was very angry and willing to have an argument with Wicander (without him even realizing), Thaisha let Tyranny know so she could take the priest out of there as soon as possible; Lady Aranessa still ranted about House Halovar's new religion for a little bit longer, but immediately hugged the druid. They approached Thjazi's body together, and his widow cried and said outloud that he was gone; trying to comfort her, Thaisha mentioned that according to the Old Path, he was already back, his soul being part of the song of the world, being reincarnated. The two of them spent some time drinking together and chatting with Murray Mag'Nesson about the rich ladies attending the event; both of them identified as such, although Aranessa quietly noted the Royces and the Lloys had different status, causing the druid to pour her more alcohol and Murray to joke about them having a "a dick waving contest" about who was richer.
After a weird moment in which Julien tried to drink alcohol for Aranessa, he and Thaisha went outside to talk, and she demanded to know why he was there, considering it weird since Thjazi's widow was safe among friends and Julien clearly didn't like her late husband; she accused him of trying to have one last and desperate moment of glory at the expense of the man he had helped defeat. The argument between them continued, and although they briefly mentioned how Alogar was doing remarkably well as Julien's student, they talked about the latter's past and treacherous tendencies against his own family, which he excused saying that he had restored his house after his father left it in the mud; to that, Thaisha responded that only people like her allowed people like him to have hope after the doors of Faerie closed. By then the druid was extremely angry, barely containing her Wild Shape, and reminded Sir Julien that if anything happened to her son she would tear the nobleman to pieces. While they were speaking they noticed how everything was getting darker around them (more than usual at dusk), and Thaisha clarified that she wasn't doing that, when they saw Vaelus appear, who ignored them and entered the Fang house. Inside, the elf started asking about an item Thjazi had stolen from her, demanding its return and being rude to Lady Aranessa and others; Thaisha confronted her for her behavior, and questioned her experience with loss while also mentioned her dead deity, Sylandri. Vaelus ended up agreeing to wait and not make a scene, and finally having a quiet moment, Thaisha joined Hal in his office, taking with her a silver box Thjazi had asked her to bring from Venatus. Said box suddenly reacted to someone mentioning Thimble's name downstairs, and broken pieces of ceramic came out of it, forming a dark mask similar to Bolaire's.[21]
"Broken Wing" (4x02)[]
When Thaisha, curious, tried to fit two pieces of pottery together, everything turned to fog, and the druid fell unconscious; Hal reacted quickly, reviving her with a single "Healing Word" (stay), but for a few minutes her eyes remained misty, and her wheezing resembled the call of a nightingale (Thaisha heard the same call in her head, even though she knew the birds were not endemic to the area). Some of the guests came upstairs to check on the two orcs, and Bolaire scolded them for touching things they shouldn't; Julien helped Thaisha stand on her feet, and she reluctantly let him, although holding his hand very tight.
As the funeral was ending Thaisha gave Elodie some cranberry rolls (wanting to get rid of them) and was present for the arrival of Thimble with Occtis, Azune, Teor, and Kattigan Vale; the later had brought a wolf, Wulferic, with him, and after a conversation about potential plans for the next day, Thaisha checked on the animal to see if he needed something, and sensed through Speak with Animals that Wulferic was ok and had a very strong bond with Kattigan (she still told him to tell her if he needed something, instead of raiding the kitchen). Before Loza left she and Thaisha spoke for a bit and mentioned the latter's "Grandmama" being still alive and with the Blade family in Dol-Rungja; Loza asked her if she wanted to give her a message, but the druid told her she would contact her herself. Thaisha and Occtis spent the night in the same room (what used to be her office when she was still with Hal), and while the wizard was sleeping (with his consciousness inside Pin), Shadia checked on them; when she expressed some level of interest in the wizard, Thaisha encouraged her to pursue him, even revealing that he was sexually inexperienced.
The following morning Thaisha went to Hal very early and they talked about the events of the day before, with the druid telling her ex that he shouldn't blame himself about Thjazi's fate, and that being hopeful wasn't a bad thing; she also added that despite the many dramas of the funeral, most of the guests were friends and allies, and only Vaelus and Julien had brought a bad energy. Hal told Thaisha that she should take the chance to spend some time with Shadia and she agreed, praising how he and Hero had played the lyre together last night, and how important it was for their own generation to make the world better for those children that came after them. During breakfast, while Kattigan was eating (in a way that Thaisha and others found somewhat disgusting) it was decided that the ranger and Occtis would join Thimble when she visited the Crow Keepers. When Thaisha asked if they wanted her to come too and Thimble told her she was too respectable for a criminal guild, the druid was surprised (although she told Thimble that she respected her too), and Occtis teased her about it. Before they left, while Occtis cast Disguise Self to look like an approximation of Kattigan's own aesthetic, Thaisha encouraged Shadia to say goodbye to him.[22]
"The Snipping of Shears" (4x03)[]
Later Hal went with Shadia and Thaisha to show the latter his new theater, what used to be the dithyramb of Azgra, since they had only talked about it through letters; Thaisha felt a little bit uneasy at first, given the historical meaning of that space, but after summoning her cane, she joined her daughter as she showed her the place, making comments about how beautiful (and cheap) it looked at the moment; they also spent some time with Uli, an elderly orc with whom Thaisha communicated through Message (since he was practically deaf), and they enjoyed a tale from before the Shapers' War that included his brother meeting the Lloys. By the end of it, Thaisha revitalized the plants around her a little bit with her magic. When Thaisha and her daughter were visiting the Tintazi Wood behind the theater, next to the lake, they hugged, having missed each other, and the druid told her child how glad she was of seeing her growing into her own person; hearing that, Shadia got teary-eyed and admitted she was insecure about that, and worried about her family, including each time her mother left, especially now that Thjazi was dead. Thaisha cheered her up, telling her that the same way Alogar was out there, defending the world like his mother would, Shadia was helping create beautiful things worth fighting for, like her father; Thaisha then took some moments to speak in Druidic to the nature around her, reminding the forest that everyone was connected, and asking for protection for those beneath the canopies. After a while, Bolaire joined them, bringing with them amphorae with paint that Thjazi had left for his brother; the two men, along with Thaisha, talked about Thjazi's last words, and Halandil was very confused about what the paint was supposed to be.
When Hal and Thaisha returned to the Fang home they found several of their friends already there, but the druid immediately noticed that Occtis wasn't with them. When Thimble told her that they had left him with Sir Julien and Vaelus Thaisha transformed into a wolf and (after snapping at the pixie in frustration) ran away tracking the wizard and ignoring the others. When she was approaching the Palazzo Davinos she saw Vaelus in the gardens, and despite being far away and being aware that the paladin used to follow an authoritarian nature goddess, she felt an instinctive urge to reach her and team up with her; thus, she howled and kept running, with jasmines flowering near her, as Vaelus got the door open for her.[23]
"Stone-Faced" (4x04)[]
Thaisha, in her wolf form, arrived in time to witness the brutal death of Julien's father, general Raimond Davinos, at the hands of Primus Tachonis. As Julien fought the killer, Thaisha and Vaelus both noticed that Pin, who had stayed with the elf, broke down into dis-animated fox pieces. Thaisha asked Vaelus where Occtis was, and ran inside as her wolven senses detected the scent of blood and the sounds of Lady Aranessa struggling in the tower; the druid avoided attacks and resisted the necrotic energy of a Circle of Death, and when she asked why Occtis was involved in this, as Primus announced the end of Houses Royce and Davinos, the nobleman answered that there was no use in having something that wasn't loyal to him. Thaisha rushed up the stairs and saw Occtis's brother Ethrand walking down the hallway with a dripping heart in his hands; she ran after him but got hit by ghouls, returning to her orcish form. She then used Land's Aid to heal herself, and cast Shillelagh, but was paralyzed by the ghouls shortly after, hearing the song of a nightingale in the distance; the druid saw Primus appear next to Ethrand and threaten to destroy her path, right before vanishing with the Plane Shift spell. Shortly after that, and having seen Occtis's body on the table inside of the bedroom, Thaisha lost consciousness due to her wounds. In the space between life and death, she saw Occtis looking lost and confused, and felt genuinely maternal towards him, despite having made jokes about those feelings in the past. She thought about comforting him through death, but she knew this was not his time, so she went against her teachings and told him to come back to life; he was willing to do so, but some other influence was also pulling him to the Underworld. Thaisha tried to help by casting Guidance, and saw something splitting in the spirit of the wizard, but before she could do anything else she woke up, healed by Aranessa's Healing Word. Thaisha went back to the fight, and used Thunderwave against the remaining ghouls (and Julien, accidentally) before going to Occtis and speaking to his corpse in Druidic, asking him to come back. Aranessa was Druidcrafting a sapling out of a desk and asked Thaisha to find a safe place for them to go; the druid, using Speak with Plants enhanced with her Lloy Staff, commanded the plants and the metal of the area, and heard the voice of an ash tree calling for them, and telling them that the veil between life and death was stronger near the bridge. Using Aranessa's Tree Stride, the two women were transported to the chosen tree with Julien and Occtis's body, and started moving towards the bridge. Sir Julien, however, kept fighting the undead as he won time for Vaelus to join them, and even though Thaisha tried to persuade him to move by casting Cure Wounds, she ended up Misty Stepping towards Aranessa and cussing in Druidic as she saw both the human knight and the elven paladin risking their lives to fight the monsters; however, they ended up joining them.
Thaisha, Vaelus, Julien, and the Lady Aranessa fled successfully and took refuge at the Lloy estate. Thaisha— having been pumping Cure Wounds into Occtis in an attempt to bring him back— mended the gashes from ghouls and the tear of the garotte on his neck, but there were no signs of life. Thaisha started the Detect Magic ritual as Lady Aranessa informed the group of what happened to Occtis, and when the spell finished, the druid felt a source of divine necromantic energy radiating from the corpse, so powerful she instinctively backed away several steps; she then informed the others that Occtis's family had put something inside him. Hal, Azune, Murray, and Bolaire arrive together, and Hal immediately went to Thaisha, hugging her and comforting her. With Murray's Mage Hand and Portent, Bolaire's tools, Bardic Inspiration from Hal and Thaisha's Guidance, they managed to remove the stone from Occtis's body, after which the ground shook, and he miraculously returned from death. Thaisha, relieved, immediately hugged him, as his wounds started to heal and Pincushion reappeared; the druid apologized for not being there to stop it, and asked him if he was alright. Occtis replied saying that he didn't know how to answer that question. Julien, furious, stepped forward with his rapier drawn and demanded to know what he knew. Thaisha stepped between them, as the knight angrily argued while Occtis tried to explain he didn't have connections to his family nor answers for him; Thaisha was ready to grapple Sir Julien but ended up attempting a hug, willing stepping into his rapier when he prevented her from getting closer. However, Lady Aranessa interjected before it could go any further, and asked Occtis what he had seen on the other side of the veil, saying that perhaps the fate of Dol-Majkar and the world itself depends on it.
"Branching Paths" (4x05)[]
Since Thaisha was bleeding, Hal used Healing Word on her as he told her to be careful. In the period before dawn, the group discussed Occtis's status and the implications for House Tachonis, as well as the repercussions for other political forces in the city; they gradually defined a plan, with the newly resurrected necromancer leaving Dol-Makjar with an escort to seek answers about his post-mortem visions, while the rest stayed behind to sound out the Sundered Houses and look for ways to weaken them. Thaisha and Hal were concerned about one of the visions, since it involved an orc that might be Alogar. She felt conflicted about going with Occtis or staying with her family, but she saw how people were treating the wizard (like an anomaly or a walking miracle), and knew how aggressive some druids would be around him; after Aranessa asked her to join them on that journey she decided she would go, declaring Occtis needed at least one person treating him like a normal person. After kissing Hal one last time she, Occtis, Vaelus, Julien, and Aranessa left with the steeds Rohor brought them.
Relationships[]
Fang family[]
Thaisha loved Halandil Fang deeply, growing with him to realize who she was and what love opened her heart up to. They started a family immediately although they never married.[24] Even after abandoning her family Thaisha kept in touch with her children, Alogar and Shadia, as well as with Hal and his extended family, including her quasi-brother-in-law, Thjazi, and his estranged wife, Lady Aranessa. In the Fang house, there is a piece of cold iron with magical properties nailed into the door; it was crafted by the Lloy family, and it was a gift from Thaisha to her children's father.[25]
Although many years have passed, Hal has kept Thaisha's old office in good conditions for whenever she visits; although they both have had "intimate moments" over the years[26] and she calls him "Love" from time to time,[27] they remain best friends.
Julien Davinos[]
Fan art of Julien helping Thaisha, by Elaine Tipping.[art 3]
Thaisha and Julien don't like each other at all, mostly because of the tension between the knight and Thjazi (and thus the Fang family for association. The druid sees him as treacherous, even against his own house,[28] and the only reason they (barely) maintain a minimal amount of cordiality between them is that Sir Julien is Alogar's mentor; although he's doing a good job, Thaisha sees the noble capable of harming her son.[29]
Despite their differences a part of Thaisha feels sorry for Julien, even if she finds his behavior frustrating.[30][31]
Occtis Tachonis[]
Thaisha referred to Occtis as her son once while she was drunk.[32] However, this relationship development was recent as Hal (the father of her other children) was unaware of it. At one point, when Occtis cast Disguise Self he instinctively chose the appearance of an orc warrior but then made sure he didn't look too much like Thaisha's son, Al.[19] After his resurrection Thaisha declared that he was family to her too, since his birth family was terrible; Occtis liked the idea, since it meant he also got Hal as a father to replace Primus.[33]
