Teor Pridesire is a nama paladin played by Travis Willingham in Campaign Four.
Description[]
Official art of Teor Pridesire, by Loren Hontanilla.[art 2]
Appearance[]
Teor is very tall and powerfully built, and has a tattoo running up his upper-left arm. He has dark silver fur and a braided mane. He wears a golden breastplate with purple vestments and cape (hiding many pockets),[9] along with a shield on his back.[10] He carries a giant, heavy, golden flail.[11]
Personality[]
Loza described Teor as "loyal, shrewd and a fine warrior".[12] Teor is very protective of his friends and comrades, yelling for them to take cover while in battle[13] and disregarding his own safety and well-being to heal them.[14]
Travis Willingham described Teor as having been "the shield for so many people for so many years, it's second nature to him. What happens if there isn't anyone else left to protect? What does that mean for Teor?" Teor felt a great deal of guilt for not having been in town when Thjazi Fang was executed because he realized how much it would have taken for that to happen, and that there must be massive machinations at work. "Teor is wondering what will he be able to do in order to put a claw on the scales of justice."[15]
Biography[]
Background[]
Teor served with Thjazi Fang, Azune Nayar, Loza Blade and Kattigan Vale in the Falconer's Rebellion.[16][17] Since then, he and Loza Blade have stayed out of Dol-Makjar trying to help others from the Torn Banner, taking up occasional contracts.[6]
Campaign Four[]
Overture[]
Teor, who arrived in the city just in time to learn of the immediately impending execution, was among the first to arrive for the funeral at Halandil Fang's house, along with Loza, an aged orc warrior who greeted Hal fondly and introduced Teor to him. Teor explained that he served with Thjazi in the Falconer's Rebellion, then noticed Azune Nayar, whom he also served with. The two approached each other cautiously, eventually clasping forearms. They conversed about what each had been doing, and wondered where Teor's brother Talcydimir Pridesire was, since he was supposed to be part of the plot to save Thjazi. When Azune and Occtis Tachonis decided to find the missing Thimble in order to figure out how their plan to save Thjazi failed, they took Teor with them to the flop house in a nearby neighborhood where Thimble was working on the glyph that was to have been hidden on Thjazi's back. There, Teor noticed fresh blood that had been inadequately cleaned away on the doorstep, and more blood going up the stairway, apparently from bodies being dragged away. The hidden room was that of an illegal arcanist, and bearing the signs of a fierce battle having recently taken place there. Teor could smell a fey scent of honeysuckle coming from a grate in the corner. He rushed there, finding the battered and dying tiny pixie form of Thimble, and next to her the small ceramic rune that was planned to be given to Thjazi. Teor ripped the grate from the floor, touched her gently, and cast Cure Wounds on her, bringing her back to consciousness. Meanwhile, Loza Blade told Wicander Halovar that she was retiring, and she recommended that his family hire her companion Teor for security work, which Wicander immediately agreed to do.[18]
Teor and the others returned to Thjazi's funeral at the very end of it, hearing the melody of Broken Wing in the distance as Hal and his youngest daughter, Hero, played to honor the dead. Later there was a conversation about who could have betrayed their plan to rescue Thjazi, with Casimir Gavendale and Cyd being the main suspects; the paladin had to admit that his brother wasn't very dependable. It was agreed that the next day Teor would try to find Cyd, and also go to Villa Aurora for the meeting Loza had organized for him, in order to learn more about House Halovar. Before she left, the old orc also made him a gift: half of the banner of the Torn Banner; she told him that she trusted him to know if and when to use it again.
The next morning Teor went to House Halovar's estate and was welcomed by Tyranny, who brought him to Wick. The three of them witnessed an accident with a Halovar wagon, and Teor approached, moved the crates without issue, and healed a wounded worker in such a graceful manner that both Tyranny and Wick were quite impressed; the latter even believed that the paladin was touched by the Light, but refused to tell him about the crates his house was transporting. Teor asked them if they knew anything about his brother, since he was looking for him, but their meeting ended early when Photarch Yanessa arrived; she and Teor spoke for a few moments and he tried to convince her that he was a new member of the Candescent Creed (even offering his services as a bodyguard), but she sent him to speak to Sir Filoneus Halovar, telling Tyranny to go with him to find him some food.[19] Early in the afternoon Teor left Villa Aurora after being instructed to dress like a follower of the Candescent Creed, and having met Sir Filoneus, who knew about his reputation as a Bannersman; he couldn't help but notice how suspiciously fast they had take him in. In the couturier he met the owners, the twins Calastro and Rulius Mercanaud, who spoke to him about who had sent him to them while the nama started feeling weird; they then paralyzed him with magic and prepared a ritual for the next hours to torture him and cut his shadow, but ended up being interrupted by Tyranny and Wicander Halovar, who convinced the Mercanauds to let him go.
When Teor left Wick healed him with Lesser Restoration, after which they brought him to Tal's home. There they met with some of the people who attended the funeral the day before, and the exchanged information: Teor explained how he had been captured because of House Halovar while he was looking for his brother, and how Wick and Tyranny had saved him; Thimble, in turn, revealed to him that Cyd hadn't been the traitor in their plan, but the one who faced the actual culprit, Casimir (Teor was very glad to hear that). The paladin felt he owed his life to Wicander and Tyranny and was willing to be their ally, and since the three of them, along with Thimble and Kattigan, had gotten into trouble that day, it was decided they would leave Dol-Makjar to chase Casimir and potentially find Cyd.[20]
The journey to Gormalay[]
The group pressed on through the rain until they reached the Black Heron Inn at a crossroads, as dawn broke and the storm subsided. There they encountered an orc in a hanging cage, whom Thimble recognized as Abalang Howell, an old friend, who had been imprisoned for stealing Filament. They fed him, and after negotiating his discretion regarding having seen them, Thimble freed him from the cage by forcing the lock. Teor, healing his wounds a bit and giving him a gold piece, ensured his collaboration, and caused him to share some advice about the road ahead. After bidding farewell to the orc, the party ventured into the Dahapshanee Wood, and upon reaching a stream, Thimble dove into it; when she came out she explained she had found some of Cyd's hair, learning that he was traveling north and that they had a potential safe haven in Hawthorn's Glade. Teor didn't entirely believe she had learned all that from some hair she had found, but didn't ask further.
After some debate about the safety of Hawthorn's Glade for the entire group, they decided to visit the house Abalang had told them about instead. There they found Ulbid Morn, a gnomish arcanist and criminal who studied the Stormwrack and welcomed them into his home. While they were there, Teor and Kattigan took turns standing guard while the others rested. When their host went outside, the paladin and he chatted about his banner, which read "Welcome home" in Gnomish; Ulbid talked about his daughters, three warriors who had joined the Falconer's Rebellion, causing Teor to show him the banner Loza had given to him. They kept talking, with the old gnome admitting he still kept the banner ready in case the girls returned, but it had been 15 years, and hope was diminishing, even if it wasn't gone. In response, Teor promised Ulbid that he would remember the three names (Cerebel, Demuriel, and Elanadel), and that if he ever saw them he would let them know that their father was waiting for them.[21]
After saying goodbye to Ulbid the following morning, and having had a chat about their plans (during which Teor emphasized that his loyalty and gratitude were to Wicander, and that he thought it was a good idea to use his family's reputation as a strategy during their mission), the Soldiers continued their journey towards Gormalay. When they encountered a fey boundary, several faeries appeared to defend it. During the ensuing battle Teor used Guiding Bolt to knock out Honeysuckle, a pixie; this caused Skinner, a redcap, to punch the paladin and knock him to the ground, intending to bathe in his blood as revenge. Wick then summoned a divine light that revitalized nature around him, leaving the fey surprised and curious, and stopping the fight. The local leader, the dryad Hawthorn, started interrogating them, and a star-struck Honeysuckle told Teor that he was wonderful for summoning light and blew him a kiss; she even declared that he was the god of the sun, causing Hawthorn to point out she had missed some things while she was unconscious. The adventuring party was allowed into Hawthorn's Glade, and Teor immediately sensed that the boundary protected them from the undead in the forest. While they were there, Teor enjoyed the admiration he received from the smaller fey (since Honeysuckle was telling other pixies about him), but focused when Kat reminded him the more they stayed, the longer it would take to find Cyd. Teor spoke for a bit with Honeysuckle and Skinner (who was still angry and jealous of him) about their community and its conditions, and when he was told that many fey arrived there injured or sick, he approached them to help. He healed the broken wing of an owl-like bowka, Jauf, discovering he was an acquaintance of Thjazi who had met Cyd when he came to the fey enclave. When he got confirmation that Thjazi had been executed, Jauf gave Teor a letter he was supposed to deliver to the Archanade, and told him to give it to Thimble.
The Soldiers left Hawthorn's Glade and followed the path that led to the Wraith Tree, where Talcydimir (like many other mortals that discovered the fey community) had been sent; there they fought several undead and the wraith that animated them, and Teor got in the final blow on it. That, however, didn't stop the zombies, and the paladin felt his holy symbol react when a red rune appeared on the dead tree nearby, marking its connection with the Underworld and the undead there. After Thimble lit the tree on fire, the rune was destroyed and Teor's holy symbol went back to normal. Cyd, however, wasn't there.[22] The group looted some of the corpses, and Thimble gave Teor some coin she found, along witht the two halves of the holy symbol of the wraith (which he decided to keep due to his historical value). After getting lost the group decided to spend the night on a tree, and when Tyranny expressed they should have stayed next to the burning tree, the paladin agreed with her.
The following morning they finally got out of the forest, arriving to the fief of Vallow; it was then when Thimble shared with Teor the vision Soobri had told her about, in which Cyd would have arrived to Timmony, finding danger there too. When they visited the local chapel to ask for help and information, the acolyte there immediately reacted to the presence of Tyranny and Thimble, and the interrogation they had prepared for him ended up being a small theological debate, with Wicander trying to cause a good impression and guarantee the acolyte's discretion. When they left Teor asked if they weren't going to be more harsh and intimidating about the Candescent Creed, but Tyranny argued Wick could still be kind, as long as he caused the right impression. After they learned from Thimble and Kattigan that, according to a shepherd, Cyd had arrived the day before, just to be arrested and brought to the Baron of Sloak, the group started moving northward; as they walked Teor commented that if they had to decide, they should probably prioritize capturing Casimir, since his brother wouldn't forgive them if they saved him before catching the criminal. They stopped at Arderin, where Teor, with some assistance (which included Kat's Guidance and Thimble saying they would pay more for traveling faster), convinced an old woman to take them with her on her cart.
When they were finally in Gormalay they decided to spend the night on the cart before continuing their journey to Sloak on foot; however, during the night Thimble and Kattigan had a small adventure investigating the presence of strange dogs in the area, and the ranger woke Teor up at one point to ask him for money (so they could buy stew and keep interrogating the people in a tavern nearby). When they finally returned to the group they found Tyranny crouched on Teor's chest as he tried to move, but they soon focused on the new information they had: there were men loyal to House Tachonis in the tavern, and they were meant to go to Sloak to meet with Casimir, the new lord of that barony. The Soldiers continued traveling until they reached Sloak; knowing that the forces of House Tachonis were coming too they sent Wulferic, and the wolf returned after a bit confirming that one of their targets was in the area. Thimble left to act as a scout, and when she returned she informed her friends that Casimir had received his deed of title in his new ruinous castle, but he had also been publicly humiliated and wounded after forgetting himself in front of his benefactors. They debated what to do next, with Teor arguing that while Casimir wasn't planning on leaving his new home soon, they had to figure out where Cyd was; they ended up agreeing to deal with Casimir first, using Tyranny and Wick as a distraction to get inside the castle.[23]
Teor fell trying to climb a tree, and hid in time to avoid being seen by the guards; Thimble, who had been scouting inside, informed him and Kat about the situation inside the castle. Shortly after they heard Wick calling for help, a battle ensued: Teor climbed the wall and came to the Light Priest's help, protecting him and using his Daunting Roar to scare away the enemies; he attacked one of them, Sir Cosgrove, with Guiding Bolt, but the veteran knight wasn't intimidated by that. Although Wicander was knocked unconscious they kept fighting, until Teor saw Thimble rising in the air, victorious after killing Casimir. He then told the guards that he didn't have anything against them or their king, only the crows amongst them; to illustrate it, he killed the Crow Keeper closest to him but spared Sir Cosgrove, and healed the wounds the knight had inflicted. Once the battle was over the paladin approached Wick and healed him as well. The Soldiers talked to the surviving garrison of Castle Sloak, and although some felt guilty about failing their new baron, Teor assured that their oath to King Gus was still active and valid, even if Casimir's, undeserved as it was, was over. After speaking with Dame Winifred Cosgrove they realized that there was concern about the fate of Sloak if it didn't have a baron of its own protecting it, so Teor and Kat encouraged Wick to claim the title; he agreed, and when Gully Breeches (the last of Casimir's men) returned, they ensured his cooperation intimidating him with Thaumaturgy, convincing him to take off his new armor so he could earn it again serving the new ruler of Sloak. That position, however, ended up changing again after they decided that Dame Cosgrove (of honest family, born in Sloak, and worried about its well-being) was better suited to take care of the barony. After sharing some information they all went to the public house of the village, where they found Dame Morgaine; they were told that there were actually two Tachonis caravans, and that Cyd was likely being kept with one of them, traveling north.[24]
Relationships[]
Kattigan Vale[]
Teor and Kattigan served together during the Falconer's Rebellion,[25] but hadn't seen each other for 10 or 15 years until after the execution of Thjazi when Kattigan followed him to Thimble's hideout.[26]
Thimble[]
Thimble and Teor served together during the Falconer's Rebellion.[25] When Thimble laid dying inside a grate after being attacked, Teor was the first the first to rush to her aid and disregarded his own well-being to rip the grate out of the ground and heal her, addressing her very gently as "little one" while he held her in his hands and comforted her about the death of her dear friend Thjazi Fang.[27] Thimble describes Teor as "one of the most honorable people she knows" and was willing to put aside her dislike of Wicander Halovar because Teor had pledged to protect him.[28]
Wicander Halovar[]
Teor was initially suspicious of Wick's behavior and demeanor during Thjazi Fang's wake, and afterwards met him at the House Halvor to interrogate him and try to find out why the plan to save Thjazi's life fell apart. while speaking to Wick he even went as far as considering dislocating his pinky as they shook hands,[11] However, after Wicander and Tyranny saved his life from two demons posed as tailors, who had been tasked with dealing with Teor by House Halovar itself, he pledged his own life to protect them.[29] Since then he helped Wicander on multiple occasions and even brought him back from the brink of death; Wick still admires him a lot, and considers him a figure just like a knight, even thinking of him as the captain of his guard during his extremely brief period as Baron of Sloak.[30]

Trivia[]
- According to Travis Willingham, Teor is more akin to Grog Strongjaw in terms of being stoic with a simple backstory, since it's easier for Travis to start with a simpler character in a brand new world. What was learned in the Overture will spark what Travis wants to add to Teor as the story progresses.[55]
