Tempestar was the flying city-state of storm giants, and the original site of the Council of Seven Scepters.
History[]
Tempestar used to be a glorious realm, and the place where representatives of each highborn civilization met in an annual council. Among the local giants lived a demigod of the storm, Woden, who represented them in the council, carrying with him his Scepter of Wodensdottr.[2]
Centuries ago, presumably between 512 and 612 PD,[3] an unknown force destroyed Tempestar while it was flying over the Lucidian Ocean, miles off the coast. Although there were survivors, all the glories of the city-state ended up at the bottom of the sea. After this event Woden abandoned the storm giants and his political duties in the Council of Seven Scepters.[2]
In 836 PD some of the original citizens of Tempestar still lived, including Sea Dreamer Galadawna, who, despite being present in every single meeting since Woden left, hasn't claimed the demigod's throne, scepter or responsibilities, focusing instead on making sure that the highborn giants that now gather in Jovatthon don't forget about the people of Tempestar and their powerful sorcerers[4] (something that particularly worries the cloud giants).[2]
Trivia[]
- Its name comes from the Latin tempestas, meaning "weather", "bad weather" or "storm/tempest". It is also the name of the Roman goddess of sudden bad weather.
- Although the cause of the destruction of Tempestar is currently unknown, the cloud giants might have been involved, since by 812 PD they seemed very interested in keeping the survivors of Tempestar appeased so they wouldn't attack Jovatthon, and by 836 PD the Sea Dreamer was making veiled threats to the Council mentioning the storm sorcerers. Moreover, one storm giant, Eyvindr, is trying to gather an army with which to take revenge on the Council of Seven Scepters.[5]
- It is unknown if Typhoe, an empowered storm giant champion known as the Dreaming Shark,[6] is connected to Tempestar and its people now that its ruins are under the sea.
