Taveen was a fire genasi member of The Roaches, a gang in Rybad-Kol prison. As an NPC, Taveen was played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Description[]
Taveen's eyes were bright cinders, and his teeth were burning coals that glowed brightly when his lips opened. He had a roach tattoo on one bicep.[1]
Biography[]
Taveen was a long term member of The Roaches, the gang of which Fiedra Marrow was the leader, and worked in the kitchens of Rybad-Kol prison along with its other members. He saw fellow gang member Crokas be arrested for knocking out another inmate that had pushed him.[2] When the bones of a hand floated to the top of the soup while an important visitor was there, Taveen (as a fire genasi resistant to fire damage) quickly slapped it back under the surface.[3] He helped to plan the stratagem to get Crokas released.[4] He also expressed reservations about strange gang member Kephekedriel.[5] Both he and Otto remained in the kitchen while Fiedra went to serve dinner to the visiting dignitaries later that night.[6] After the prison was destroyed, Fiedra searched unsuccessfully for the rest of the gang in its ruins[7] before leaving for Torm's Hill.
When Fiedra's party reached the settlement, Otto and Taveen rushed to greet her, explaining that they had survived the fall of the prison by hiding under a gigantic cooking pot and rolling in it. They also told her that Kephekedrial, the third gang survivor, had opted to leave with an apparent cult they encountered on the way to Torm's Hill.[8] Later, during the battle against the soldiers of the Strife Emperor, Taveen grabbed the sword of a fallen enemy and tried to attack several times without success. He did, however, survive the battle and looked approvingly at Fiedra when she told the villagers afterwards that they now needed to have each others' backs.[9]
Taveen was present when Fiedra confronted the traitor Marlath and cut out his tongue.[10] That night, each of the Roaches took turns keeping watch over the others as they slept.[11]
In the morning, as Fiedra bade Otto and Taveen both farewell, Taveen observed that it was a shame she was leaving, since with Marlath now out of the way, they could really run quite a game on the town. Fiedra told them to remain in the settlement and to help Klasara Bandy and Nez Pilch in any way they needed. Taveen remembered how angry his life had been previously, and was made thoughtful by the idea that the anger could serve some purpose. He began weeping, but sharply told the others not to look at him as he wiped away the tears.[12]
When Fiedra returned to Torm's Hill, she found both Taveen and Otto there, and presumably took them with her when she eventually settled in the area around Stilben.[13]
