Tasha is a famed spellcaster, known for her iconic cauldron, and for being the creator of several spells, including the famous Tasha's Hideous Laughter.

In 836 PD Veth Brenatto, an arcane trickster who knew about this wizard and was able to cast one of her spells, used Tasha's name as part of a rhyme in a poem she wrote to her friend and teammate, Yasha Nydoorin.[3]

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight[]

The following information is part of 5th Edition canon, not Critical Role canon, and it is included for informational purposes connected to Exandrian characters.

Tasha, after making too many enemies, fled to the Feywild, where she eventually transformed into an Archfey, taking a new identity as Zybilna, and creating her own domain, Prismeer. Despite her mercurial (and sometimes dangerous) personality, she earned a reputation as a fairy godmother-like figure in the Material Plane, and at least two Exandrians, Klee Westerly and Hogus Pinsworth, heard about her and traveled to her domain. Only Hogus managed to reach Zybilna's seat of power, the Palace of Heart's Desire, wanting the Archfey to help him pay his debts; it was during his audience with her that the Hourglass Coven (three powerful hags) used one of Zybilna's treasures to stop time in her castle, leaving her and most of her court at that moment, including Hogus, in temporal stasis for a long time.[4]

Quotations[]

  • "Big, bold, brave Yasha
Hair so long, like yummy pasta.
Sturdy as the Cauldron of Tasha.
If you're dirty, we will wash ya.
If you cross her, it will cost ya.
We'd be sad if we ever lost ya." (Veth, in a poem written to Yasha)[5]

Appearances and mentions[]

Beyond her single mention as a character, she has been technically mentioned in multiple episodes as part of the names of spells cast/known by Laerryn Coramar-Seelie,[6] Sprigg,[7] Veth Brenatto,[8] Twiggy,[9] Capo,[10] or Imogen Temult.[11]

Trivia[]

Tasha by Olga Drebas

Depiction of Tasha, by Olga Drebas from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, p. 4..[art 1]

  • In 5th Edition's common lore, Tasha is one of many mages (like Bigby, Mordenkainen, or Otiluke) who have gone down in history for inventing spells that other people use.
    • Outside of Critical Role canon, Tasha is a powerful demonologist from Oerth, known by many names and titles, including "Iggwilv" and "The Witch Queen"; she is also known for her complicated love relationship with the Demon Prince Graz'zt. How her fame extended to Exandria has not yet been explained, although her spells have been present in this world as early as the beginning of the Calamity.[12]
  • Imogen Temult's spell Psychic Whip is simply a renamed Tasha's Mind Whip, following the general practice in Campaign Three of avoiding names and terms specific to other Dungeons & Dragons settings. However, Laura Bailey has used the original name in three episodes so far.[13][14][15]
