Tamara Podemski is a Canadian actor, screenwriter, and musician.
Biography[]
Tamara Podemski was born and raised in Toronto to an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) mother from Treaty 4 Territory in Saskatchewan and an Ashkenazi father from Israel. During her primary and secondary education years, she attended and graduated from the Claude Watson School for the Performing Arts in Earl Haig Secondary School in Toronto, where she studied theatre, dance and music throughout its 10-year program.[1] She then studied Aboriginal Studies and Hebrew Literature at the University of Toronto.[2]
She has appeared as an actor, singer, dancer, and choreographer both on screen and in live theater and has released three albums (two in Anishinaabemowin and one in English) under her own record label, Mukwa Music.[1]
Tamara created The Benjamin King Foundation to help end preventable harm in the health care system following the death of her son, Benjamin.[3]
In 2023, Tamara partnered with her husband Jamie Thomas King to create Blackbird Productions Inc. Their first project, The Light Before the Sun, premiered in October 2024.[4]
