Talonstadt is a refugee tent city on the eastern edge of the Dwendalian Empire, close to the border of Xhorhas and south of Bladegarden. It primarily consists of ravenites and a few draconbloods that, after the destruction of Draconia in 811 PD weren't comfortable in the emerging Xarzith Kitril, and ended up seeking refuge in the Dwendalian Empire.

Though they were welcomed by the Empire and given refuge, they were restricted to the land offered after initial processing. The settlement was intended to be temporary but has since become more permanent, and it became known as Talonstadt.[3] It's inhabitants do not necessarily face discrimination from the Empire. However, there is worry that Draconian nobility hidden in the Dwendalian government seeks to destroy Ravenite presence in the Empire. As a result, the political relationship between Talonstadt, the Empire, and perceived Draconian allies are tense and complex.[4]

Talonstadt is overall very undersupported by the Crown, and this worries their Kitrilian kin,[5][2] who have sent agents and representatives to watch over the dragonborn refugees there. One of them was Troka, better known as "the Scoundrel King", who was chosen for his silver tongue and, after learning about the poor conditions of the people in the shantytown, started looking after them while he and his troupe robbed the Crown and confused the authorities; his service for Talonstadt turned him into a folk hero and a relevant figure in the Scars of Scale and Tooth.[6]

Between 835 and 836 PD a secret group of Tiamat-worshipping Draconian sympathizers called the Chroma Council was manipulating local youths into joining them in the Ashkeeper Peaks and helping them raid passing caravans for money and resources.[7]

Demographics[]

82% of the shantytown is Dragonborn, with another 11% being human and 4% being halfling. Talonstadt has a population of 1,810 in 835 PD.[2]
