Summon Crimson Shade is a 4th-level spell that summons a Reilora that obeys the commands of the caster and acts as an ally.[4]

Description[]

Summon Crimson Shade requires one action to cast, with verbal, somatic, and material components. The entity it calls appears within 90 feet of the caster and disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or the spell ends.[1]

The caster can specify the kind of Reilora summoned. They are similar to the kinds encountered by Bells Hells but are their own category.[5]

History[]

Imogen first cast this spell in "Compulsions" (3x40) in the battle aboard the Silver Sun against the chimera. The creature she summoned appeared to be formed of wispy red energy, semi-transparent and not fully there.[6] Chetney's hand was able to pass through it with only slight resistance.[7] However, when attacking, it caused significant psychic damage.

Imogen's initial subsequent uses of the spell were all to summon Thought Eaters, calling one to draw an attack while the party was exploring the ruins of Molaesmyr,[8] and another to show Keyleth an example of the beings that inhabited Ruidus,[9] and these appeared to be half ethereal and half physical.

As her power grew, the beings she summoned became increasingly defined and powerful,[10] and included additional types of Reilora. She called a hex mind reilora for the first time in "Mist and Whimsy" (3x71) to aid in the battle against the Bari Mondolo.[11] and Sivaana, another hex mind, to open a door for them when the group's lockpicking failed.[12]

By "Rush for the Bloody Bridge" (3x82), the Reiloran summoned by the spell appeared solid and corporeal rather than translucent and ethereal, and was "more powerful".[13]

Behind the Scenes[]

Summon Crimson Shade is a reskin of the spell Summon Aberration, summoning a Reiloran rather than an aberrant spirit.[1]
