The Stratos Throne is a political entity that dominates the Taloned Highlands, located in the city of Sruwargas in the southwest of Marquet.[1]
Description[]
The Stratos Throne controls a region of high mountains, with massive shelves and plateaus scattered among the peaks that are home to elevated valleys, hosting an important part of their land dedicated to agriculture.[2] In those areas the land seems to be flat enough for horses and other similar beasts to live there.
Dismantled by the Stratos Throne around 823 PD during the Apex War with the Court of the Lambent Path, the skyport in the Taloned Highlands has not been rebuilt by 843 PD.[3]
Notable locations[]
- Gelvaan: a village in a grassy plateau valley.[4]
- Sruwargas: the capital of the Stratos Throne, located in the Coven Peaks[5]
Society[]
Demographics[]
So far the Stratos Throne appears to be composed of humans,[6] with a percentage of its population being of elven or half-elven ancestry.[7]
Notable people[]
- Galtheid of the Ember Vigil: Archmage of Sruwargas.[8]
- House Kade: A noble family that deals with cattle business. They left the Stratos Throne after the Apex War, moving to Jrusar and becoming part of the Mahaan houses, although their status is low in this system.
- Lady Emoth Kade was probably born in her family's original country, but she left while very young.[9]
- Imogen Temult: Sorceress from Gelvaan, and a member of Bells Hells.
Politics[]
In the past the Stratos Throne relied on some form of monarchy, having a sole sovereign when the Apex War started. However, at some point during the conflict that ruler died and was succeeded by a council that reached terms to end the war, and the new system of government has been maintained ever since.[10]
Military[]
The military of this country is considered quite mighty, being located in the physical apex of the region, and held directly by the government.[11]
History[]
More than two decades ago the Stratos Throne and the Court of the Lambent Path of Aeshanadoor engaged in a military conflict known as the Apex War. This intense and destructive conflict culminated around 823 PD, leaving both sides exhausted, expended, and without a clear winner.[12] At some point during the conflict they hired mercenaries from the Hellcatch Valley.[13] Some soldiers of the Stratos Throne also tried to establish a base of operations in a temple of the Gloomed Jungles, only to be aggressively attacked by the idol of the temple.[14]
As of 843 PD their truce continues, and the Stratos Throne is still working to rebuild its society to its former glory.[15] That year, in Yios there was a rumor that spies from the Stratos Throne had been captured outside Doan.[16] Despite their projects and rumors, the Stratos Throne maintains an isolationist policy, and even within its own borders the central government does not pay much attention to what happens at the base of its mountains, beyond collecting taxes.[17] Despite this, there were attempts to contact the Stratos government as part of the plan to form a Marquesian alliance to deal with the problems caused by the apogee solstice. However, due to the isolationism of this nation, there were rumors that the event itself was orchestrated by the Stratos Throne, and that it would lead to a second Apex War.[18]
Despite these rumors, when a meeting was held in Vasselheim to talk about Ludinus and his plans, the Stratos Throne sent Archmage Galtheid to represent them there. The wizard expressed his concern about the tension of the ley lines.[19]
