Stonejaw Strongjaw[1] was Grog Strongjaw's father. As an NPC, he was played by Matthew Mercer.

Biography[]

Background[]

When Kevdak beat Grog nearly to death, Stonejaw did nothing to help his son.[2]

Stonejaw died at some point after Grog's departure from the Herd of Storms. His corpse was later reanimated by the dying mage Drath Mephruhn who was attempting to become a lich, and Vox Machina destroyed him.[3]

Appearances and mentions[]

Trivia[]

  • Travis Willingham revealed that when Campaign One was starting and he was defining his character, he hadn't decided if Grog's surname was "Stonejaw" or "Strongjaw", and sometimes wrote both down. At one point that led to Matt interpreting that the barbarian's father's name was "Stonejaw", and that became canon by accident, and hasn't been changed since.[4]
  • According to Laura Bailey, Stonejaw Strongjaw had an Intelligence score of 4.[5]
  • While infiltrating Westruun when it was under control of the Herd of Storms, Scanlan and Kaylie created an illusion of the head of Stonejaw Strongjaw as a way to divert approaching members of the Herd.[6] Grog continued the ruse, impersonating Stonejaw to draw several of the Herd's guards into a trap at the western gates of the city[7] but failing to deceive the remaining members.[8]
