Sprinkle is a crimson weasel pet of Jester Lavorre. It was later revealed to be a vessel of The Traveler.[2] As an NPC, Sprinkle is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Sprinkle is a small, red-furred weasel.

Personality[]

The Mighty Nein's dangerous adventures across many varied environments have hardened Sprinkle, making him twitchy and paranoid. As Jester knows very little about weasels and often forgets that Sprinkle is even on her person, he is also sleep-deprived and emaciated, making him extremely aggressive.

Biography[]

Background[]

Prior to Jester's ownership, Sprinkle was owned by travelling pet salesman Kestiff Drudy.

Notable Appearances[]

"Beyond the Boundaries" (2x32) The Mighty Nein passed a pet salesman on the road between Zadash and Nicodranas. Beau and Jester split the cost of a blink puppy they named Nugget. Jester bought Sprinkle on her own.[3]

"The Second Seal" (2x47) During down time as the Balleater traveled from the Gravid Archipelago to Nicodranas, Jester taught Sprinkle to fetch small items for her.[4]

"Domestic Respite" (2x62) Jester decided to make a weasel nest for Sprinkle in the tree on top of their tower and then forced him into it against his will. He was last seen, clearly very unhappy, hissing at her.[5]

"A Fog Lifted" (2x106) Sprinkle somehow survived the boiling waters of Vokodo's lair, but it put him in a very bad mood. When Caleb put octopus-Frumpkin on Jester's shoulder, Sprinkle immediately attacked him and Frumpkin poofed out of existence.[6]

"Hell or High Water" (2x136) It was revealed that Sprinkle is actually a vessel of The Traveler that he inhabited occasionally in order to keep an eye on Jester.[7]

Relationships[]

The official art of Jester and Sprinkle. Jester is a blue tiefling woman with purple eyes and blue hair, which is braided in front of her horns. She is wearing pink earmuff and an floral embroidered winter coat. The pink straps of her haversack are visible. Sprinkle is a crimson coloured weasel with a green ribbon tied in a bow around his neck. He is perched on Jesters right shoulder.

Jester Lavorre[]

Jester is Sprinkle's owner. He rides on her shoulders, hiding in her hood and armour in dangerous circumstances. Despite her best efforts, Jester does often forget about Sprinkle, leaving him unfed, skittish and aggressive as she unintentionally takes him through very dangerous situations. He is not very trusting of Jester, as he was unwilling to go into the small hut she had made him in the Xhorhaus.[8]

Yasha Nydoorin[]

After returning to the Xhorhaus from their encounter with Isharnai, Yasha gave Sprinkle a bath. He hated this experience.[9]

Caduceus Clay[]

Sprinkle is assumed to trust Caduceus, as seen when Sprinkle accepted a sandwich Caduceus gave him, despite being in a irritable mood due to Yasha giving him a bath. This trust may be due to Caduceus being able to communicate with animals.[10]

Oremid Hass[]

Oremid Hass has a fondness for animals and Sprinkle is no exception. He loves to hold and pet both Frumpkin and Sprinkle. Oremid is very knowledgeable about how to take care of animals and has given advice to Jester on at least one occasion.[11]

Quotations[]

  • Beau: "She has a ferret named Sprinkle that has survived against all fucking odds, Dairon. I'm just saying maybe mix it up or something . . . maybe."
Laura: "I knock on the door and say-" (as Jester) "It's a weasel!"[13]

Trivia[]

  • Sprinkle was always intended to be Artagan in disguise, as a way of keeping tabs on Jester. If the party had not bought Sprinkle, they would have found him an hour later, having stowed himself away.[14]
  • Sprinkle is named after one of Jester's favorite foods: doughnuts.
  • Sprinkle is an inverted mirror of Trinket. Both are the pet/animal companion of a character played by Laura Bailey, but while Vex'ahlia was adoring and overly protective of Trinket, Jester is neglectful and endangers Sprinkle constantly; Trinket is very big, while Sprinkle is very small, Trinket often had to be left behind to Vex's sadness, Sprinkle goes everywhere to Jester's obliviousness; Trinket despite being strong and with plenty of hit points is given plate armor for added protection, Sprinkle doesn't even get heavy cloth armor; Trinket is generally very sweet natured and caring, Sprinkle is vicious and paranoid; Trinket is native to the Material Plane and Vex only heard him speak after being exposed to flowers in the Feywild, Sprinkle is actually native to the Feywild and Jester heard him speak long before she ever saw him on the Material Plane.
  • There is a running joke among the community that states Sprinkle is traumatized because Laura frequently forgets that Sprinkle is in Jester's shirt. This has led Jester to take Sprinkle along for many extremely dangerous encounters.
    • CritRoleStats has calculated that Sprinkle has survived 9 circumstances under which he would normally have died as of "The Favor" (2x56).[15]
    • It is a further running joke among the players that Sprinkle has actually already died and is some form of undead.
    • Many of the cast like to voice Sprinkle's internal thoughts, especially Travis, and have joked about Sprinkle begging for help and crying about Jester neglecting him.
