The Soot and Swill is a tavern located in the Smolder Spire of Jrusar.
Description[]
The tavern is homey and welcoming,[1] although in slight disrepair, and its original burnt umber wood has been blackened over time and through use. It has a long bar and many tables, with a kitchen behind the bar and designated servers. The clientele is described as working-class people, some likely from a mining operation, who visit during breaks or on a day off.[2]
The kitchen of the tavern has a hidden door[3] which leads to a small room that is used for food storage and as a hideout for Artana Voe.[4]
History[]
"Thicker Grows the Meal and Plot" (3x09)[]
The Bells Hells entered to quietly gather information about the whereabouts of Artana to question her about Gurge Kisgregg. Ashton Greymoore purchased a pricy elvish wine as repayment for their past tavern shenanigans with the help of Fearne Calloway. The group discovered the secret entrance in the kitchen and distracted both the chef Pretty and the owner Preio Madali to allow four members of the party through it. There they found Artana and, in a tense and brief exchange, received information about Gurge. To prevent Pretty from re-entering the kitchen and discovering the four, Imogen Temult successfully proposed that he go on a date with her, Fearne, and Laudna once he finished his shift.
"Ghosts, Dates, and Darker Fates" (3x10)[]
Pretty and the ladies began their date at the Soot and Swill by exchanging gifts. Laudna gifted Pretty improvised flowers of ribbon and chicken bone, which he set on the mantel. Pretty then shooed away the attentive crowd hovering near their secluded table and all made awkward small talk as they ate a meal by the on-duty chef. After the meal, they left for a performance at the Dreamscape Theater.
"The Shade Mother" (3x16)[]
The Bells Hells shambled into the tavern to recuperate from a hard-earned victory against the Shade Mother with a meal and beds. The ladies and Pretty awkwardly exchanged a few words when he brought out everyone's food, and he briefly took theirs back to add a special orange tang.
Ashton and Fresh Cut Grass shared a room, Fearne, Laudna, Imogen, and Orym shared a room, and Chetney Pock O'Pea bought his own. Chetney asked Preio for a 3 am wake-up call and was countered with a request for a gold to fulfill this extremely uncommon request. She declined when she learned at what time he needed it, but when he upped it to a platinum she reversed her decision. Chetney explained he was testing her limits and went back to bed.
"Reunited" (3x64)[]
Team Wildemount briefly checked in with Pretty at the tavern when they returned to Jrusar looking for the rest of Bells Hells, but he hadn't seen them.

- In its first mention in "A Woodworker's Quandary" (3x08), it was misnamed as the "Sit and Swill".[5]
- It is also occasionally erroneously referred to as the "Sit and Spin" by the cast.[6]
