The Smouldercrown Mountains are a distinctive formation, only a few miles across but very tall, approximately 290 miles southeast of Ank'Harel on the continent of Marquet.

Description

The Smouldercrown Mountains are so named because their striking, jagged spire peaks form a round shape resembling a crown, only three or four miles across, between which is a small valley protected against the sandstorms of the desert. The soil in the valley is dried, cracked, and red. The formation appears to be natural and seismically formed, but not from tectonic plates meeting.

Notable locations

• Ziggurat: Scanlan Shorthalt and Lionel Gayheart discovered a ziggurat within the Smouldercrown Mountains. Here Delilah Briarwood conducted a second, or possibly third, ritual to create a ziggurat sphere for Vecna before Vox Machina could interfere, and the Remnants used the sphere to move artifacts to the Shadowfell.

Wildlife

Within the valley is some sparse scrub brush and sporadic trees that are adapted to survive extreme droughts. The trees are dry, with brown, withered leaves, yet they are fruit-bearing.

Some sort of "desert duck" was summoned by Lionel at one point to help them answer some of their questions, though it was uncertain whether such a species is normally prevalent in the Rumedam Desert.
