Slithers are Ruidian predators that are able to burrow through and hover just above the ground. They are tamed and used by slitherlords of the Dominion of Cruth.[1]

Description[]

Slithers are tadpole-like creatures covered in teeth-looking spines, bearing a combination of wisps of fur and scales at a distance,[2] and an eye-like appendage that they use to taste the air.[3] While under a foot in height when young, they grow large enough to swallow half of the body of a human in a single bite.[4]

History[]

When Bells Hells visited Ruidus in 843 PD, on their way to Kreviris they encountered multiple basketball-sized slithers. Suspecting that one of the seemingly tadpole-shaped creatures might be a lure to draw in prey for bane worms, the adventurers were cautious, and FCG tried and failed to communicate through the Speak with Animals spell. When the party threw some meat and saw the resulting feeding frenzy, they decided to evade the beasts.[5]

That same day, after Bells Hells had slain an Imperium military party accompanying a shipment through the streets of Kreviris,[6] more Imperium agents accompanied by a slitherlord used several slithers to search for the responsible party in the Jagged Edge. The adventurers, hiding in a cellar, managed to avoid most of the slithers that explored the hiding spot, but one of the beasts stumbled upon Imogen Temult and started attacking her. In order to draw the agents away while her friends quietly killed the monster attacking Imogen, Fearne Calloway transformed into a slither and emerged from the hiding place, then fooled the searchers into thinking she had picked up a trail leading outside and down the street. When her friends were out of danger the druid burrowed and lost the slitherlord and the other slithers, although since she wasn't used to staying oriented underground, she needed telepathic assistance to find her way back to the cellar.[7]

While Bells Hells were walking through Vaterra Kreviris, they noticed that many beasts were kept there, including some slithers.[8] Later, when they were trying to avoid Sorrowlord Zathuda and Gloamglut, Fearne Polymorphed Fresh Cut Grass and transformed herself into slithers so that they could burrow and run away like Ashton Greymoore was doing with his primordial powers.[9]

In Exandria, the Ruby Vanguard sent slithers as part of their successful attacks against one of the encampments of the Exandrian Accord near the Red Center.[10]

Abilities[]

Slithers have displayed the following abilities:

  • AC: 14 [11]
  • Hit Points: between 55-71
  • Speed (burrowing and hovering) 30 feet[12]
  • Tremorsense 30 feet[13]
  • Attack: Vice bite: [14] 13-17 points of piercing damage and the target is grappled

Trivia[]

  • According to Zhesh, slithers and bane worms are, despite their common burrowing nature, entirely different species.[15]
  • They have tongues.[16]
  • No explanation has been given for why the smaller, wild slithers Bells Hells encountered didn't respond to Speak with Animals.
