Skullcrusher Bloodforge, better known as Sky, is a halfling teenage barbarian and wizard apprentice, and one of the campers attending Wildemount Wildlings. She is played by Eden Riegel.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Sky is a short (2' 8") halfling girl with curly red hair and a naturally muscular built. She wears glasses and a cape, and carries her spellbook everywhere.[4]

Personality[]

She rejects her natural anger and idealizes the possibility of using magic instead of violence to solve problems.[5]

Biography[]

Background[]

Skullcrusher was born in about 829 PD,[6] and grew up in Othe as a member of the violent Bloodforge family, known for their barbarians.[7] When she was about 10 years old, she saw some bullies bothering a little girl and breaking her unicorn figurine; before Sky had time to react, the bullies left, and she saw a wizard approach the child, comforting her and using a spell to summon an actual unicorn to protect her.[8] Since then, Sky decided she wanted to be a wizard, rejecting the violent tradition of her own family, and in 844 PD she was sent to the Wildemount Wildlings camp.[9] Although she was very willing to become a wizard there, the process of learning magic was rather slow, and her strength sometimes worked against her, making her break wands while she tried to use them.[10] She and Jessep Nimblethorp became friends, and during a race in which both of them were doing pretty badly, they came up with a song about a zorbo that helped Jessep's anxiety.[11]

By the end of the summer, both Sky and Jessep had ended up in the OLGA cabin (along with Padmund Pondhop and Kai) for not having earned a single badge at camp. However, on the last day, Veth Brenatto gave them one last chance, leaving them with Beauregard Lionett and Yasha Nydoorin to guide the four teenagers and help them earn at least one badge before the end of the day. During their introductions Sky talked enthusiastically about why she wanted to learn magic.

Their first activity was to try to steal a pinecone from one of the veteran adventurers. Sky was the third one to participate, facing Yasha. She tried to distract the barbarian with a Minor Illusion of a cute creature, but when that failed she ran towards Yasha with gum in her hand, making it sticky enough to take the pinecone more easily; the older barbarian praised her strength, but the teenager chose instead to focus on how good her illusion had been, even if it didn't work.

The second activity was a "Pull of Peace" (renamed by Yasha), in which the couple would pull the rope against the four teenagers. During the struggle Sky cast Grease but she ended up making their own side of the rope slippery; at one point Beau ran over the kids' heads, confusing them and causing Padmund to lose motivation, and he felt even worse when Sky got poisoned trying to comfort him with a hug. They ended up winning after Kai distracted the adults by screaming and pretending to be hurt; Sky then declared they should have sung the song she and Jessep had composed, since that would have helped with the mood. Beau and Yasha encouraged them, saying they were making actual progress, and Sky focused on Padmund to assure him that his magic was very useful, and that she wanted to learn from him.

The third activity was "Hide and Seek" with Yasha hiding. After the counting down, Sky teamed up with Jessep who used a spell scroll to cast Fly on them both so they could look for the hidden person from above. They spotted a monstrous pig that had trapped Yasha in its mouth. Beau arrived and put herself between the girls and the creature, and Sky tried to help by casting Tasha's Hideous Laughter, but the enemy resisted it; while she and Jessep considered what to do next, the pig grabbed Beau with its long tongue and captured her too. After attacking the campers with depression-inducing smoke, it walked away, with Beau and Yasha in its jaws.

"Into the Wilde" (WWx02)[]

When Sky and Jessep found the other two adventurers and explained what had happened, Padmund panicked and started to walk away, but Kai convinced him to stay. Using flattery and some bribery involving the promise of her own card in Padmund's game, the campers convinced Mishi, the Curfew Creature, to tell them where the pig was, and they went there. They found the area of the cabins covered in food (which Sky saw as shepherd's pie), and although Padmund determined it wasn't what it looked like, he tried some and entered a maze, so his friends followed him (with Jessep trying some of the food as well). They all followed Padmund, trying to avoid traps, but at one point a flash of magical light left the wizard distracted, as the room started filling with lava; since he was completely overtaken by some memory of his past Sky and Jessep tried to use spells to get his attention, but that failed, and the halfling tried to help with rope created with her Marvelous Pigments. Kai rescued Padmund, and once he regained his senses, he jumped to help Jessep too; then Sky cast Jump to get away from the lava. Since the influence of the food was still clouding Jessep's thoughts, Sky tried to help her focus by reminding her of memories from that summer, but she, still distracted, ate more "kimchi" to regain some health. They continued, and eventually found a stranger guarding the exit, but Padmund immediately disintegrated his form by hitting him with his staff.

They arrived to the Magic Meadow, finding it filled with strange monsters. They distracted a couple of shark-like guards, and convinced them to let them pass with the excuse that they were hat makers, but then decided to ran towards the shed nearby while avoiding the monsters. When they reached the hatch, Padmund tried to open it, and Jessep used illusory magic to distract one of the enemies and gain some time; then, Sky managed to open the hatch without needing to rage. When they were about to go in, a monster produced a psychic scream that knocked both Kai and Jessep unconscious.

"Wilde Out" (WWx03)[]

The four campers were in a dark tunnel, unable to see, and Sky felt guilty for not using her strength earlier to help the group; since Kai and Jessep were unconscious and they needed assistance, Padmund decided to lit his manuscript of the card game on fire, so that they could find health potions for their friends, and Sky was able to reanimate Kai. They were all very impressed with the wizard's sacrifice. They walked (finding some potions on the way) until they found two doors; Sky tried checking both of them for temperature, but they were the same, although one of them had a slight hum. They opened that one, which led to a dark world of madness, and they closed it immediately. The second door brought them to the waiting room of "Wok Wok", and Sky cast Minor Illusion to create a child of bleeding teeth to distract people as they kept moving. They reached a giant kitchen in which they found Beau and Yasha, as well as Wok Wok, a giant pan-like monster. A battle ensued, and Padmund wanted to leave, not caring about the promise of badges, but Sky encouraged to stay, and added that if he left there was a possibility that his illustrator would die, so Padmund had to agree with her. Sky cast Grease to weaponize the heat of the kitchen, but the blast of fire caused by that also hit Beau and Yasha; the young barbarian felt very frustrated and angry, and Padmund, noticing that, made Wok Wok fall so that his friend could rage and hit it. She kept doing so, furious because the monster was still moving, but eventually she and Jessep defeated it, and Padmund and Kai joined their friends to kick their enemy's fallen form.

They were brought back to the camp by Mishi, and they told Veth and the other campers what had happened, causing them to receive a lot of praise. When Padmund threatened to sue the camp the director tried to bribe him, and with Kai's intervention she ended up offering boons to the four of them; when Padmund summoned Archibald but he told him he was interested in love, not gifts, Sky gave her Tusk Love Weekly, a magazine she had found earlier. The OLGA campers received their Friendship Badge (created following Sky's suggestion) and they were officially promoted to Threebelows; they also got a free reservation to attend camp the following summer.

Later life[]

Following Veth's offer, Sky became Caleb Widogast's student, learning to embrace both her strength and her intelligence, and next summer she returned to the Wildemount Wildlings camp as the Multi-Class Mentor. By then, the Friendship Badge had become one of the most coveted of the camp.[12]

Relationships[]

Jessep Nimblethorp[]

Sky and Jessep became close during the summer of 844 PD, bonding over their lack of skill in the different camp activities, and trying to help each other. Since they both know Halfling, they use that language to speak to each other.[13]

Trivia[]

  • Eden Riegel and Libe Barer deliberately chose to limit their own characters' spellcasting, based on the idea that both girls were still bad at magic; incidentally, that caused Brennan Lee Mulligan (who had chosen to have only non-harmful spells for his character) to be the best magic user in the group, to his surprise.[21]
  • She has sensitive hearing and is startled by loud sounds.[22]
  • As of "Welcome, Campers!" (WWx01), Sky was the only member of the OLGA cabin with a confirmed location for her home (Othe).
  • Her favorite food is shepherd's pie.[23]
