Queen Simone Fruunast is the current dwarven queen of the Diarchy of Uthodurn.[2] As an NPC, she is played by Matthew Mercer.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Simone is both beautiful and stern, giving the impression of being both attentive and in control. She has a chiseled square jaw, rosy cheeks, thick curly dark brown hair that is intertwined and braided with her crown, and a warm smile. She wore beautiful robes that pooled at her feet.[3]
Personality[]
Queen Simone is a charismatic and compassionate woman, and a well respected ruler who balances diplomatic skills with a warrior spirit. She has a tendency to follow her heart more often than her wits.[2]
Biography[]
Simone was born in Uthodurn as the daughter of the dwarven queen Judessa Fruunast.[4]
She grew up in a moment of social and demographic changes for her city: after the fall of the elven city of Molaesmyr, in 585 PD, some of the surviving elves of that nation, including King Imathan Talviel, journeyed through the cold of the Flotket Alps traveling northward until they arrived to Uthodurn, where the dwarves allowed them to stay.[5][6] Worried about the tensions between the two races after some years, Simone's mother, Queen Judessa, met with King Imathan and proposed the establishment of a diarchy in Uthodurn. While it took months to make it official, both monarchs worked together to achieve their goal, adapting the city to establish harmony between the local dwarves and the former elven refugees;[6] in the process Imathan and Judessa forged a deep friendship.[4]
Queen Judessa died in 794 PD, and Simone, being her daughter and heiress, succeeded as queen of the dwarves. She continued her mother's policy, and under her rule, the bonds of friendship forged during her mother's reign flourished in Uthodurn. While she's still young (at least compared with her fellow dual monarch, Imathan), by 835 PD she's both respected and admired, for she has proven her mettle with her axe in times of conflict,[7] and lead her people maintaining her own small council to discuss political matters pertaining to the dwarves.[8]
The adventure hook A Dreadful Bore in the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, set in 835 PD, describes a Kryn raid on Uthodurn with the intention of capturing the dual monarchs.[9]
During the apogee solstice of 843 PD the magic in Uthodurn started failing, and what until then was thought to be a statue adorning the throne room of the dual monarchs came to life, causing great destruction as well as several deaths and injuries. Simone and Imathan were evacuated by their royal guards along with several politicians and inhabitants of the Grand Disk.[10] Soon after, when part of Bells Hells along with F.R.I.D.A. and Deanna Leimert managed to calm the celestial beast (named Umudara) and guide it out of Uthodurn, the queen was among the onlookers in the streets.[11] She and Imathan sent Sir Ludin, the royal page, to invite Bells Hells to a meeting the following day.[12] When Bells Hells came to the meeting the next day, after the dual monarchs were talking with Lord Desavon Kamash, Simone was pleasant to the adventurers and very interested in the information they shared.[13]
Less than a month later, the Dual Monarchs attended a meeting in the Platinum Sanctuary of Vasselheim along with many other influential figures to discuss the invasion of the Hellcatch Valley by inhabitants of Ruidus through the Bloody Bridge created by Ludinus Da'leth's Malleus Key.[14] The next day, Queen Fruunast also attended a smaller meeting to make plans to present to the larger group later. When she learned from Bells Hells that there was a secret portal connecting Issylra and Ruidus, she asked if it was big enough to send an army but learned it was rather narrow, with Lady Vex'ahlia de Rolo suggesting strike teams instead.[15]
Relationships[]
Imathan Talviel[]
Simone sees Imathan as a mentor figure, relying on him whenever she needs advice.[2] Since they spend so much time together ruling the city they sometimes display similar mannerisms.[16]

Trivia[]
- Her name derives from the Hebrew Shimon, meaning "The Lord has heard", although sometimes it is interpreted as "the one who listens". Her name could be a reference to the fact that, as queen, she listens to Imathan and relies on his experience as a more veteran ruler.
- She shares her name with Simone Deepwell.
- It is unknown if Simone's parents were married or if her father is still alive, although she is considered a legitimate monarch either way.
- She is the first Fruunast queen who inherited the crown as dual monarch, instead of the sole ruler of Uthodurn.
- Her throne is made of stone, and adorned with rubies, emeralds and runes.[17]
- She was more religious in her youth.[18]
