Shorecomb is a coastal city in Issylra, about 200 or 250 miles southwest of Vasselheim.[1] Dynios recalled it is part of Othanzia,[2] though the Sunderpeak Mountains that separate Othanzia from the southern regions of the continent are only two days' ride southwest of Vasselheim.[3] Vox Machina traveled to Shorecomb on their way to the Core Anvil,[4] as the city is about five miles from the volcanic island of Scaldseat.[5]
Shorecomb has perhaps a few thousand residents[6] who are unused to seeing well-dressed, dangerous people,[7] but it is a port city that does decent trade in this part of Issylra,[8] with a particularly healthy fishing industry.[9] The shoreline is not a gentle sandy grade, but rather sheer cliffs of 150 to 200 feet dropping to pebbled beaches, with wooden staircases built into the cliffs to allow people to traverse them, and cranes to lift heavier items, like large quantities of fish, from the boats below.[10]
People[]
The following were present in Shorecomb circa 812 PD, when Vox Machina visited:
- Fenna: Fisherman with an apparent tooth infection. Led Vox Machina to the dock hub for 5 gold.
- Senth: Half-orc dock mistress
- Santy: Goliath captain of the Shore Shanty.
Culture[]
A favorite dish in Shorecomb is smørrebrød, an open-faced sandwich using both dried and fresh seafood on dark rye and, depending on the circumstances, may incorporate a variety of other toppings including potatoes, cheese, and tomatoes. Another delicacy is salmon, typically pulled from the Ozmit Sea in Sydenstar before the fish migrate up the nearby rivers. A broiled dish called Scaldseat Salmon, in honor of the nearby volcano, is popular there. Lemon, pepper, garlic, and olive oil are used in all these dishes.[11]
Trivia[]
- Shoresight Isle is just off the coast of Shorecomb and can be seen from land, hence its name.
