A sharkbody abomination is the result of a curse that transforms a humanoid into a hulking aberration with the head and skin of a shark.

Description[]

Appearance and behavior[]

A sharkbody abomination has the limbs of a muscular humanoid, but its skin becomes coarse and grayish, and it has the head of a shark. They retain the intelligence and personality of their previous selves, but they are under the telepathic control of their sahuagin masters (via their Shark Telepathy ability).[1]

Abilities[]

The following is all taken from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, p. 215 and the Monster Manual (2014), p. 330.

  • Skill proficiency: Perception
  • Has humanoid limbs and a walking speed of 20 ft.
  • Can breathe air or water, but must be submerged at least once every four hours to avoid suffocating.
  • Bite: Deals piercing damage.
    • Blood Frenzy: Has advantage on melee attacks against creatures that are at lower than maximum hit points.
  • The curse that transformed the humanoid into a sharkbody abomination can be undone only by a Remove Curse spell or similar magic.

History[]

Sharkbody abominations appear in the Tide of Retribution introductory adventure in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. The village of Palma Flora, a place with a shark-hunting tradition, provokes the ire of the small Sharkfeather clan of sahuagin, which tends to their flock of sharks. One of the sahuagin, Selachai, made a pact with Uk'otoa to take vengeance, and she leads the clan in an attack on the village.[2] Selachai invokes Uk'otoa's power to transform several of the shark hunters and villagers who failed to escape the attack into sharkbody abominations, using the telepathically dominated creatures as the first line of battle against anyone who returns to the area.[3]
