Sess'inek is a demon lord of the Abyss.
Description[]
Sess'inek is described as a reptilian demon.[1]
History[]
At some point in history Sess'inek claimed at least one of the layers of the Abyss, becoming a demon lord. In Exandria, in the Material Plane, he had followers among the lizardfolk.
Unwelcome Spirits[]

By 835 PD a sect of lizardfolk followers of Sess'inek had settled in the Brokenveil Marsh, led by a corrupted shaman, Skr'a S'orsk. They had appointed an ancient horizonback tortoise boneyard as their "sacred" place, adorning it with bone jewelry and war paint as tribute to the demon lord, and stacking new bone remains of recent victims in a mound, acting both as a sign of devotion and as a resource for Skr'a S'orsk to use his Animate Dead spell. The shaman also had a small collection of holy symbols of different gods of the main pantheon, including the Chained Oblivion.[2]
Appearances and mentions[]
Trivia[]
- Despite Tharizdun being a very influential deity in the Abyss, followers of Sess'inek seemed to approve killing worshipers of the Betrayer God and taking their symbols as trophies.
- Outside Critical Role canon his name has also been written as "Sess'innek" (sometimes accompanied by a title, "the Emperor Lizard"), but this article uses the spelling presented in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.
- In older editions Sess'inek's layer in the Abyss was the Phantom Plane.[3]
