Seedling, the Wayward Pilgrim, is a well-made short sword originally given to Orym by his late husband Will. It was enchanted by Serataani, the Wildmother, in the temple of Zha'Vrollo following Chetney's trial there, gaining its magical abilities. It was later further enhanced by the Wildmother, becoming an exalted[3] Relic of the Red Solstice.[4]
Description[]

Appearance[]
The sword has a tinge of green[5] and ivy engraved along the blade, usually covered by vines produced by Orym or the sword itself. After the fighter communed with the Wildmother and she improved the weapon, the blade became longer, its vines became more abundant, and two golden gems appeared to adorn the item, like eyes guiding its strikes.[6]
Properties[]
Exalted state[]
Seedling grants the wielder a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls.[7] The sword allows the wielder to shoot Grasping Vines from their off-hand toward a target up to 15 feet away, with a DC of 14 Dexterity[8]. It can also Cut the Air to slash a target with a gust of slicing air while remaining at a 15-foot distance.[9][10] Seedling heals the wielder one hit point per round in combat;[11] the effect also heals the wielder completely after combat, including the restoration of severed body parts.[12]The exact mechanical properties of Seedling in its Exalted state have yet to be revealed although it now has a spell save DC of 17.[13]
History[]

The mundane (although finely crafted) sword was a gift to Orym from his late husband Will before his death and was therefore treasured by Orym. When the party was entering the shadow realm in their quest to save Laudna from death, Orym temporarily traded it for a magical weapon borrowed from Vex'ahlia that was able to make the crossing with him,[14] but immediately returned it when that mission was successfully ended.
After Chetney Pock O'Pea's trial at Zha'Vrollo when he was alone in the chamber holding a central statue of Serataani, Orym caught a faint scent of Will and his attention was drawn to the empty scabbard held by the statue. He fitted his sword into the scabbard and vines began growing around and surrounding it, with a faint green light that slowly faded. His hand was also wrapped in the vines and ivy, and when he pulled the blade out, ivy grew from its hilt, wrapping around the blade like a hand guard and emerald magical energy drifted from it. Orym bowed his head, saying, "I don't know why but I'm grateful all the same. Thank you, Serataani."[15]
While Bells Hells were separated just after the Apogee Solstice and after Team Issylra had helped the Hearthdell villagers destroy the temple of the Dawnfather built in their village, Orym, in the dead of night within the Serratus Wilderness, planted Seedling point-down in the ground and adorned the hilt with flowers, creating a makeshift altar. He addressed the Wildmother, telling her he'd heard much about the good she and the other gods had done and asked for her aid.[16]
The sword was again enhanced and blessed by the Wildmother at her sacred tree of The Birthheart at the Abundant Terrace in Vasselheim during the struggle to prevent the release of Predathos following the Apogee Solstice of 843 PD. At that time, Orym realized that the sword had become a Relic of the Red Solstice.[6] He used it to kill Ludinus in Ruidus a few days later,[17] and to regenerate Planerider Ryn's lost arm a few days after that.[18]
Trivia[]
- Liam O'Brien stated that when he was asked to name Seedling, he thought about who Orym is and the idea of plant seeds blowing on the wind for miles before landing to start a new life.[19]
- Seedling is the first known Relic of the Red Solstice.
