The Seat of Disdain is the fortress of the Paragon's Call[2] in the West Dregs of Bassuras.[3]
Description[]
Exterior[]
The Seat of Disdain is a pentagonal[4] three storied[5] fortification situated behind a small crenelated wall "that mimics the Carmine Curtain around the city, only instead of a deep red sanguine coloration, the fortress is painted in sky blue". It is slightly weathered by the occasional monsoon rains.[6] The wall has a number of ammunition slits for arrows, crossbows, or ballistae.[7] It has a couple of visible cracks but most of them have been patched.[8]
There are two opposite entrances to the Seat of Disdain that are both about 15 to 20 feet wide.[9] The front gate is a tall wooden door with iron fittings to reinforce its wooden base, which is slowly rotting away.[10] The gate in the back is 10 to 15 feet and has two smaller doors[11] that shift inward.[12]
Inside the walls, there are "a few lookout platforms, especially on the very top," and four 15-foot-tall[13] curved spires made out of cobbled metal with "twisting horns that emerge from the top"[14] and large, mounted weaponry.[15]
Interior[]
The halls of the Seat of Disdain are almost in their entirety carved from sandstone, rock, and dirt, which are found on the plateau and the surrounding ravines of Bassarus. The majority of doorways and furniture are made out of wood.[16][17]
Some of the living quarters for Paragon's Call members are at a subterranean level,[18] although it was later clarified that they were not in the basement.[19] The barracks are dimly lit by torches.[20] One of the rooms has "three cots, a few foot lockers arranged around the base, a couple of small weapons setups, some armor racks that are affixed to the nearby wall, and personal lock boxes".[21]
When Bells Hells joined, their assigned quarters were on the ground floor, along with the war room, the armory, and other barracks.[22] The second floor held more barracks and the mess hall and kitchen.[23] There were more barracks on the third floor, with more ornate doors and one very large room with double iron doors. There was also a beautifully decorated secondary war room, utilized as the business center of the Call for hosting emissaries. The floor had several defensive balconies and arrow slits capable of accommodating artillery and crossbows.[24] The roof is patrolled by guards and holds a massive wheeled bolt thrower and signal braziers.[25]
