Scream Needle is a wicked curved dagger once wielded as an offhand weapon by Otohan Thull.[3][1]
Description[]
Scream Needle is a +2[1] magical weapon[4] that inflicts piercing damage.[5] In addition, if a successful attack using it causes the target to make a concentration check, the DC for the check is doubled.[6] Matthew Mercer described it as being "designed to break concentration."[7]
History[]
Otohan wore both Ishta (her saber and primary weapon) and Scream Needle on her back,[8] and wielded both of them against Bells Hells in their initial confrontation in Bassuras.[9] The dagger was again used during Otohan's attack on Keyleth during the Apogee Solstice,[10] and its ability to make concentration checks more difficult was demonstrated for the first time against Fearne during Bells Hells' final confrontation with Otohan on Ruidus.[11] After Otohan's death, the party gathered her belongings and put them in the Bag of Holding.[12]
Days later, convinced by Delilah Briarwood that Otohan's sword Ishta which Orym had just started wearing was possibly sentient and cursed, Laudna attempted to remove it from his back but was discovered and remained insistent she should use the Quintessence Array to absorb and destroy it. To break the stalemate, Chetney brought out the dagger Scream Needle and suggested that Laudna could absorb it instead. She accepted Scream Needle, then Spider Climbed out the window where she assumed a Form of Dread resembling Delilah Briarwood and sank the dagger into her own chest, absorbing it with a pulsing purple light that pulled the dagger into her torso where it vanished.[13] In return, Delilah granted Laudna the feat "Void Puppet".[14]
Trivia[]
Members of the cast expressed regret about giving Laudna the dagger to absorb, since it would have been particularly useful against Ludinus Da'leth and other spellcasters in his employ.[15]
