The Scaldwind Sands in Marquet were once the domain of the red dragon Thordak.
According to J'mon Sa Ord, Thordak came from the Scaldwind Sands.[6] Allura Vysoren noted that Thordak controlled half of Marquet for centuries—though she said he took the "scalding sands" as his domain—but he struck at Ank'Harel just as it was rising to prominence,[7] shortly after 595 PD.[8] As J'mon archly put it, Thordak grew tired of his "meager dominion" in the Scaldwind Sands, so he led armies of feral kobolds and "various serpentine followers" (presumably including serpentfolk) in an attempt to take control of Ank'Harel, but he underestimated the city's protectors: his armies were defeated and there followed a battle in the skies between Ank'Harel and the Aggrad Mountains to the north, ending in Thordak's defeat.[9]

- ↑ More likely relevant, due to its location, is that late in the Calamity, Gruumsh struck at the heart of Cael Morrow, blasting the city into the earth and burning the surrounding jungle to create deserts and wastelands (including the Rumedam Desert and parts of the Hellcatch Valley). This happened after Gruumsh lost an eye to Corellon and after the Battle of the Barbed Fields. See Call of the Netherdeep, p. 121. See also pp. 5, 132, and 142.
