Satzrak Runestrider is a blue dragonborn sorcerer whose tavern served as temporary headquarters for the Consortium of the Vermilion Dream.
Description[]
Satzrak is a loyal member of the Consortium who owns and operates First Eclipse, a tavern across the street from the Luck's Run casino in Ank'Harel's Suncut Bazaar; he personally tends the bar.[5]
Satzrak has a soft side; if the player characters (PCs) bring Shira, a human teenager with innate spellcasting abilities, to First Eclipse while seeking a safe home for her, Satzrak will gruffly take her in and be reservedly happy to be a loving foster parent to her.[6] On the other hand, he is also happy to celebrate an experiment that looses dangerous creatures on a rampage in the streets of the Suncut Bazaar.[4]
Biography[]
By the time of the crisis around the Netherdeep in 836 PD, First Eclipse had a hidden storeroom that the Consortium used as a temporary headquarters for months longer than expected, and Satzrak hoped they would make the arrangement permanent.[1] If he is approached with questions about the Consortium, he will give a free drink but also hiss at the questioner to keep quiet, go home, and await a letter.[7]
If the PCs choose to join the Consortium, Satzrak may quietly set up a meeting in the First Eclipse storeroom between them and one of the co-leaders of the Consortium, Master Aradrine, though Satzrak is not informed about the reason ahead of time.[8]
If the PCs join the Cobalt Soul, their investigation of First Eclipse may lead them into combat with a pair of ruidium elephants that Satrak and another co-leader of the Consortium, Master Khelkur, have unleashed in the streets of the Suncut Bazaar. At the direction of yet another co-leader, Master Dendarron, First Eclipse has been hastily cleared out ahead of an expected search by the Hands of Ord and moved the valuables to a new headquarters. After defeating the elephant constructs, the PCs may find Satzrak and Khelkur toasting the success of their experiment, in which a small amount of ruidium was used to duplicate the effects of a Figurine of Wondrous Power (though the elephants cannot be controlled). Satzrak then tells the PCs that the tavern is closed and orders them to leave or else be attacked.[9]
Relationships[]
- Satzrak is a loyal member of the Consortium who works directly with multiple leaders of the cult, and his tavern is used as their secret base for an extended time.[1] Indeed, First Eclipse even has a permanent teleportation circle inscribed on its roof,[10] and Consortium agents are given valuable teleportation tablets leading to that circle.[11] However, he is not always told the reasons for the orders he follows.[8]
- As noted above, Satzrak may develop a loving fatherly relationship with Shira.[3]

Trivia[]
- As a blue dragonborn, Satzrak would presumably have a lightning breath weapon and additional abilities,[12][13][14] but unlike with his compatriots Aradrine and Galeokaerda, there are no instructions in the text to add racial traits to his statblock.[15]
- Blue dragons favor living in deserts,[16] and this blue dragonborn lives in a desert city.
