Sam Maggs is the writer of the first two volumes of the Mighty Nein Origins graphic novel series[1] and of The Tales of Exandria: Artagan.[2] She also contributed to the Candela Obscura Core Rulebook. As of 19 September 2023, she became the Senior Manager of Brand and Content Strategy at Critical Role Productions LLC.[3]

Sam is a bestselling author and journalist. In addition to her Critical Role works, she has written two novels, several short stories and non-fiction books including The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy, multiple comics and graphic novels such as Dead Men Tell No Tales: Pirates of the Southern Seas and Marvel Action: Captain Marvel, made contributions to games including Call of Duty: Vanguard, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and Marvel's Spider-Man, and appeared in publications including PC Gamer, The Guardian, and The National Post.[4]

As an authority on women in pop culture, Sam is an active proponent for equality behind-the-scenes in video games and comics. Maggs is bisexual[5] and dedicates herself to including queer representation in her writing.
